Hi everyone. I'm new on this forum. I'm just about to order me an Maz 38 Sr. Have listened to it a lot on mp3's. Big fan of El84 sound. Anyone compared the reverb model vs. the non reverb? In short does the reverb steal TONE??. My other amps are, Vox AC30 Vintage, Matchless DC30. Mesa DC3, POD xt, POD Pro. check out www.nordlyd.noEspen NORWAY.

Welcome espennor! Congrats on the new DRZ amp! I'm in the same boat as you. I've probably got another months wait till mine comes in.
Don't know about tonal differences between rev and non rev. I know I ordered the non-rev because I wanted the effects loop. There are so many good reverbs out there, Lexicon, Boss, TC Electronics, that I didn't really care if it had reverb or not... I just wanted an effects loop.
Welcome to the tone zone of Dr.Z!

The NR MAZ has a bit more clarity than the verb model....just a bit. For the record, I've tried a bunch of studio rack mount processors (including an $800.00 Lexicon Unit) in FX loops on multiple amps and find them ALL to be serious tone suckers. Surprisingly, the Holy Grail is fairly transparent, but can be noisy and susceptible to hum.
If you're thinking you want some type reverb, I would spend the extra $200.0 on the MAZ. More convenience and truly a great sounding verb.
Be aware that the MAZ Sr. has a full sized tank and the MAZ Jr. has a much smaller tank.

I use the Holy Grail reverb when I need it. It's cheap and sounds great at reasonable reverb levels (9 to 12 o'clock range). I personally never turn it past 10 or 11 o'clock. They're less than a hundred bucks new or you can pick up one on ebay pretty cheap. Charlie

I make a mistake earlier in this thread about the different reverb tank sizes in the MAZ Sr. & Jr.. Z is now using smaller tanks on all of the new MAZ models.
My bad.

Re: Holy grail hum I have a holy grail reverb. Try different power supplies. Mine makes a lot of noise with the digital power suppltes , like a one spot. I also have an old Arion Stage Tuner and it doesn't like the One Spot either. I also have the more expensive digital power supply sold by Godlyke/Guyatone. It looks and acts exactly the same as the One Spot but it cost $10 more (I think). Also my Maz 38 was built this year and it has the small tank. Z's reverb is nice but I can't hear it as well as the old Fenders, without turning it up too high. I might try a 12AT7 driver tube and see if that makes any difference, probably won't.

FYI billyguitar....I was using a One Spot with my old Grail when I was getting the hum. I never guessed it was causing a problem, as my other pedals showed no symptoms. I don't know when Z changed to the small tank, but I prefer the large one...warmer, lusher sound...not as bright & boingy. The small tank sounds, uhh, smaller.

Theres a TC Electronic Dual Engine Effects processor, rack unit, but half depth. The chorus and other effects on it stink, but the reverbs are quiet good, especially for the cehap price. Better than that Boss pedal, which I also use sometimes.
