I've been reading a bunch of posts about this amp, and from what I gathered, the Evan started off (or started to move toward) being a 2-channel, master volume 6L6 amp. Is that right? Was the Evan also the amp that was along the lines of the master volume amp Joe Walsh wanted? Did that turn into the Galaxie?
I sold my Bogner Shiva, mostly because it had one major flaw . . . it's not a Z! I'm hoping the Doc comes out with a 2-channel, master volume 6L6/EL-34 amp. I wasn't sure where to post this, but since the Evan seemed to start off as what I'm looking for, I figured I'd post it here! For all I know, the Remedy might be just what the doctor ordered, but I can't find any info on it.
I'm curious if there's something on the drawing board along the lines of the original Evan. I've got my checkbook out and pen in hand! ;D

Well here's long and the short of it Che.
The EZG took two years to produce, and many versions . The original did have a boost section but I couldn't get to sound right. When building using turret board construction you are limited in functions that can be added and switching Master Volume was needed for Boost/Non-Boost and the whole thing got TOO complicated.
It took a couple of clean sheet re-designs to come up with the simple but WARM and RICH sounding EZG-50 that works so well when driven by a pedal.
I'm happy with the result though it did vary from the original concept.

Thanks for the response, Doc! I'm becoming a huge fan, and I can only imagine what it takes to design and build these great amps. I've been hoping for a 2-channel Z that could take the place of my Shiva, and after a visit to the local dealer today, I'm pretty sure I've found that in the Galaxie. It just took me a few tries to understand how to get along with it. After playing through a 2x10 combo this morning, I'm pretty darn excited to get back into that store and give it one last run before I bring it home.
Thanks again for the response, and thanks for building such great amps!

I'm glad the EZG has a Master Volume....versus some secondary Boost or Overdrive Channel. I think the Masters work so well with the MAZ Junior and MAZ Senior....that you can thicken up the tone with this feature alone......and now the EZG has one. I reported on the EZG a couple of months ago after hearing one at FatSound and noticed the Master was EXTREMELY usefull and sounded GREAT! You can obviously set it to crystal clean, but also thicken it WAY up....and WAY more than any reviews i had heard to date. Again, this is one of those hard-core, professional, working Amplifiers that is layed out PERFECTLY. Mark

Simplicity rules. That's what drew me to buy my first Z back in the day. You can't get much simpler than the circuit in the Route 66/Z28/Delta 88/KT45, and it shows in the clarity and complexity of those amps. Heck, the same could be said for a lot of Z's...Ghia, Stangray, Mazerati, Mazerati GT... heck, even the Z amps with five or six knobs still have relatively simple circuits and fantastic clarity. I'm thrilled with the EZG and I'm glad Doc went with the simpler design.

The EZG is amazing. For my style and playing needs it's the best amp I own.

I'm heading back to the dealer today to check out a Galaxie again, but I know they just got in an Evan, so I'll check that out, too. If I could set that with a fat tone, and use one OD pedal, I'd be a happy guy.
One thing for sure, the amp I buy to replace my Shiva will be a Dr Z - either the Galaxie or the EZG-50 . . . unless the Remedy comes out in time and I start digging that a little more than the others.

There ain't nothin' fatter than the Evan. Start with the bass control on "0"- there's still a lot of low end! Experiment with the "pre" and "post" controls too- I run my pre maxed and with my Grosh RC (with Fralin Vintage PU's) I can get clean to hairy with just my picking attack.

I played through an EZG-50 yesterday. I'm impressed. With the Pre at 3:00 and the Post at 10:00-11:00, I got some nice crunch with a '58 Les Paul RI. The clean coming from this amp is fat and full. Just outstanding. Great job on another great amp, Doc!
I have to hold off for a short while due to other obligations, so I think I'll wait till the Remedy comes out so I can compare the two.
