hey whats up y'all....just wanted to drop a post in...its been about 2 months now since ive had my ghia, and i just wanted to say how much i love it......it really is such a killin rock and roll amp....i was first playin through it with my american deluxe strat and it sounded great , but i always felt like it was missin something.....so much so that i was debating pickin up a z-28 to try a different approach to my sound......the about a week ago while hanging out at the local sam ash while waiting for my eyeglasses to be ready from the store next door, i saw her....a 57 reissure strat in black, with aged parts and a neck to die for.......i plugged it into a vox, and i was liek damn! my **** dont sound like that....so i plugged in a deluxe strat they had to see if there was a difference.....hells yeah....the deluxe sounded so sterile and souless compared to the 57....soooo i bought it, plugged it into my ghia, and there it was...the sound i was lookin for!!...im soo stoked....its kinda funny because generally the philosophy is a good amp will make any guitar sound great, but with ghia i dissagree....its such a natural, pure signal path that it actually brought that sterilness of those noisless pickups and heavey wood that my deluxe has.....im soo happy now, both with new guitar, but mostly with my ghia, cause i can really appreciate how freakin awesome it sounds now......
sorry if i ramble, im not the best post writer......thanks for listening
DR Z rox!!!
im still gonna get a z 28 though!

Just did my first gig with my new Ghia. It was fabulous as expected. I was actually dissapointed it was such a short gig. It loved all my pedals and I never missed the reverb. Sounded great with my 60's vox 212 cabinet. I Really want to try a closed back Zbest. It sounded pretty big for 18 watts.

you gotta watch out using a closed back cab when you arent miced......i find the z best is hard to hear from anywhere but right in front when i use my ghia with it.....however gigs where i get miced it rocks

While not as room filling as an open back cab, I find that the Z-Best is actually pretty good at filling a room with sound in a pretty wide spread... I think the Theile shelf port helps to spread the sound around, while the closed back keeps things tight and focused. No, it won't fill a room with sound like an open back 2x12, but I've never heard an open back 2x12 with punch and focus like the Z-Best! I'm with you guys... Flings with other amps have come and go, but the Ghia is an amp to love for a lifetime!

I have said time and time again that the Carmen Ghia is my favorite and most used amp of anything I own. As far as clean headroom .... run the amp below 9:00 and it has some of the best cleans of anything ever made so if you just mic it at those giant venues where you have 100,000 watts of house power behind you just about anything can be done.

myles - I've been using my Ghia just like that a TON lately... Volume set at around 9 o'clock for cleans with my PRS on single coil settings (McCarty switching with WCR Goodwood pickups) more and more lately... absolutely unparalelled clean tones is right!

The PRS has some pretty high output. Try the Volume down about 8:00 on the Ghia and it will be pretty cool too. The Carmen Ghia is known as an agressive amp and people crank them lots ... usually past noon on the volume and unfortunately miss the fact that the amp has some of the most amazing and full clean tones of anything out there. A really cool setup for a big live venue where you have a great house susyem would be one CG at 8:30 or so for the cleans and one at 11:00 - 1:00 for the distorted tones and then balance the levels from the house system.

The aftermarket WCR Goodwood pickups I've got in my PRS are not anywhere near as hot as the stock Dragon I pickups, especially when tapped as single coils. I think the stock PRS Dragon's read out at like 16k bridge and 9k neck... The Goodwoods are around 8.5k and 7.5k I believe. You're right though, when I had the stock PRS pickups even on the tapped coil settings with the Ghia volume at 9 o'clock I had to roll back the volume on my axe a hair to keep things clean. There are some great, even cleaner tones to be had from the Ghia at 8 o'clock as well though!

"... i was liek d**n! my nuts dont sound like that... "
Mine don't either. But in case that wasn't your intent and the auto-censor mis-spoke for you, you should know you don't have to accept those goofs. After you have posted your post and gasped at the result you can still go back to tidy up your trail. Use the "Modify" option right next to the "Reply" option. Unless of course you meant to tell the world about your nuts' sound. In which case, nevermind. ;D
