Thinking mainly the solo from Another Brick in the wall part 2. Clean, yet singing? Does it do Hi Watt really well or is it more "Fendery" as some have described it?

I'm a huge Floyd-Gilmour fan.
The solo from another brick in the wall was actually recorded with a "Rat" pedal going straight into the board believe it or not. It surprised me as well when I first read about it too. I haven't got a KT45 although I may get one very soon but like the Doc and Myles state it leans more towards that British glassy clean rather than Fender although with the right speaker combination you may be able to achieve both to some extent. I guess this is what has had me interested in this rig for a while now.

I believe groovergeorge is correct that DG did record that solo direct with some pedals.
Nonetheless, the KT45 is a wonderful choice for DG tone. It's tough to say it's more hiwatt than fender or more british than american etc.
As Myles pointed out in an earlier thread, the speakers make a HUGE difference.
Play through some fanes and you've got a hiwatt flavor.
I know someone on here has a KT they plat through Jensens, which they say really cleans it up a great deal.
I play mine with a Z best. Depending on how I set the controls, I can get anywhere between a Hiwatt, a Vox AC50 or AC30, a Twin Reverb, and then some.
Once I save enough $$$$, I want to swap my speakers with a Weber Thames and a Greenback........a downsized DG live setup.
DG used WEM 4x12 with Fane Crescendos and Marshall 4x12 with greenbacks.
Either way, if you like Gilmour, this is your amp.
It is by far my favorite amp I have ever played/owned.

i have a KT-45, and to my ears there is nothing about this amp that says "Fender". definitely very Hiwatt-ish. if you're looking for a Gilmour-like sound/tone, the KT is your amp. the KT also easily gets you into Pete Townshend territory.

i get a great gilmour tone with the kt-45 and a mismatched vintage 30/g12h.
the delays and analogman silicon fuzz help too.

Hi KT owners, I'm just about to take delivery of my KT45 and wondered what settings you were using for what tones?

Just for the record, here is the documented details of the recording of Another Brick In The Wall pt 2 ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL 2 studio Stratocaster Gibson Les Paul (solo) - rhythm (bridge pickup); clean signal into mixing desk (double track) - rhythm/melody & fill-ins (bridge pickup);Muff and Phase 90 (rate 10%) - solo (neck pickup); clean signal heavily gated/compressed into the mixing desk, then fed through a Mesa/Boogie amp and back into the mixing desk Source: www.gilmourish.com/?page_id=50A great site for the David Gilmour fans out there!

Well, after a couple of months playing around with the KT45 and dialling in my pedals I am happy to confirm that this is the best amp ever for my Pink Floyd tribute act! It absolutely nails the tone of the Hiwatts plus some extra vibe that I can't explain, must be to do with the EF86, but the tones are wonderful! My soloing has never been so soulful, and of course the better it sounds the better I play! Using a tube driver into a big muff clone it screams but is beautifully controlled too, comfortably numb never sounded so good!

Just to update this thread, the KT through the Z 4x10 is spot on for all the Gilmour tones you could ever need! Throw in a few good pedals and you can cover everything! ;D
