Used the EZG-50 last night with a 4x10 open-back cabinet sporting four Jensen Alnico speakers. Sounded pretty good. Nice sound spectrum spread. It is not a Z cabinet, but a Mesa cabinet I bought back around 1993 or so as an extension cabinet for my Mark IV. I haven't used it much over the years, and decided to break it out and see how the EZG-50 would work with it. I did an A/B/C trial using 3 different cabinets yesterday afternoon, the Z Convertible 2x10, the 4x10 & a 1x12 ported cab with an EVM12L. I liked all three, but decided to take the 4x10 to see how it would sound live. Nice, big sound. Actually it's the nicest this cabinet has sounded in a long time. The EZG-50 head seems to work well with all cabinets I've tried. Every cabinet just gives it a different color. The more I use the EZG, the more I like it. Great little amp head. Thanks Doc. MeZa

Hi.
Well only trouble now is that I'll probably end up with a 4X10" as well - damn ;D No, but seriously I really want to try my EZG through my Super Reverb speakers. I do like the 2X10" convertible and the 2X12" though.
Greetings, JanLF

I tried my EZG-50 through the Z-Best 2 x 12 (V-30 and a G12H30) when I picked it up from the store. Sounded "fine," but seemed to be missing something I was looking for. I have a Dr Z 4 x 10 on order. In the interim I've been using the 4 x 10 cabinet of my Super Reverb. WOW!! The 4 x 10 is the BOMB with this head. Very cool!

How did you hook up the head to the Super Reverb?

Speaker cable out of the EZG-50 head coupled to the stock speaker cable/wiring harness of the Super Reverb. (coupled with a 1/4" to 1/4", female to female, coupler) I'm running the speaker cable out of the Dr Z EZG-50 on the 4 ohm out. Sounds fine to me for the interim, until the Dr Z 4 x 10 arrives.

I had a 2x10 and a 1x12 cabinet for my EZG. Sold both and picked up a Z 4x10 cabinet about a year ago and never looked back. Great combo.

I run 2 4x10 cabs under my EZG with a series Y cable to get the load up to 8ohms. I have to say I've played with all kinds of bands on larger stages and clubs and this thing will smoke a 50watt marshall.....no offense to all the marshall users out there. This thing is a clean machine! the z 4x10 cab is probably the best 4x10 cab out there. It's not top or bottom heavy......it punches just as hard as a 1x12 cab and is more focused than a 4x12. These things rock! I have a Route 66 head on the way for the other 4x10. Z's are the best handwired amps out there and it's great that the Doc doesn't charge 3000 for 'em!
