What are the differences in EQ and taste? I know they are different animals but as the Route has a loud, "mid rangey" fat tone I'd like to know the differences, as I'm a quite versatile (not GOOD but versatile!) player and I play mostly funk and R&R, I'd like the concept of a 2 ch amp with great versatility. Thanks in advance.

I have never played a 66 DrT, but I KNOW they are killer amps. I, therefore, cannot tell you from hands-on experience what the differences between it, and the Galaxie are.
I can tell you, however, that there is enough sonic difference in the 2 channels on the Galaxie to keep you happy for a good while.
There are several clips in the "Sounds" section demonstrating the variety of tones in this amp.
Hope this helps...

Have had some limited play time on the '66 and gotta say it has some really good thump to it. 'specially with a Z-best cab. imho, it does a beautiful phat, smoky tone. jazz, blues, hard rock sound great. guitar-cord-amp= ;D Have played a lil' bit with the Galaxie 112 combo. slightly different set-up of course, but I'll try an' give some comparison. Channel 1 gets you those tweed (Super, Pro, Twin) tones. More breathing with solid bottom end and very nice shimmer around the top. Channel 2? Hot rockin', raw, agressive tones. I like it. Alot! Now, if you combine a '66 and Galaxie using a switcher and a Z-best (or 210 or 410 or 412 cab) ? Using a Tele, Strat, LP or 335? again, imho, I think you'd be more than equipped to do funk, R&R, jazz, blues, country .... and a few other styles. definitely you will be heard. and definitely you will have a nice palette of tones to work with and, boost/drive/od pedals? yum ;D cheers always, eh Joel

Funk - channel 1 is all over it. Super duper big round 6L6 tone with chime and nice bottom end. I'm so obsessed with channel 1 that I've not got around to playing with channel 2. I've only a handful of hours and one outting with the Galaxie. I can say that channel 2 cranks out ballsy rock and roll tone, Tony's clips are excellent examples. I've had a 66 and can say they are very different. The 66 is a great amp.

Actually I've laid the Z-28 to rest this past week and now I'm playing my Galaxie straight into my Weber 1265 on channel 1 as well. With my maple neck ash bodied strat I'm getting some luscious clean tones with heaps of headroom. If I dig in hard I can get some bluesy on the verge of breakup tones or if I strum lightly with the right technique and comp my chords I get a great funk tone as well. If I want more bottom end and more of a rock tone I just plug in my Marshall 2x12 g12h30 cab in as well to the extension out and I get a whole lot more bottom end without getting flubby. This also sounds great on the dirty channel a lot more than just a single 1265. No wonder Joe Walsh loves this rig.
It really is sensational

I have both the Galaxie and Route 66 and I either run them through a 2x10 or 4x10 with a Lentz SSL or Lentz DL90. The Route 66 has a more focused tone that to me seems best suited for blues and rock-n-roll; to me it doesn't get as "sweet" sounding as Ch1 on the Galaxie. Don't get me wrong I love the feel of the Route 66 and if I am doing blues with the my DL90, cable, and the Route 66 I am a happy man - I could play I, IV, Vs all night and be smiling because of the tone.
The Galaxie (as Tony has detailed in this forum) is a very flexible amp with Ch 1 doing some great clean stuff with ability to get a little dirty with the V1 knob up around 1 to 2 o'clock. Ch 2 is great for the rock stuff we do in our band or for my lead tones. We should have our video editing completed this week of the Galaxie doing a performance at Summerfest in Milwaukee - will post a link when it is uploaded.

When Ch 2 becomes dirty respect a route 66? could I have some gain without hearing loss?
