I know Audley used a KT45 at some point - so I assume that's what it is.

Pretty good view of it at :56. Looks like it has either 3 or 4 knobs...

That was Audley Freed and he did play a KT45. This was from 2001.

That's def Audley. And he has both a KT45 and a Route 66 he's played in the past. Most recently he's been using the Matchless lightning head.

I saw The Crowes in '01 at The Civic Center in Madison, WI and Audley was indeed using a KT ... one of the loudest shows I have EVER seen. His tone was stellar.

Thanks, if I don't find an SRZ, I would like to try a KT45... Wow... talk about two totally different amps (with the same type of power tube)! SRZ- sounds like 800 series Marshall but better KT-45- very original sounding amp with tons of clean Hiwatt-ish headroom and tons of definition that gets "crushed glass" treble at max volume- "Hiwatt mixed with Vox AC/50 that can cover Fender Twin sounds" is a decent description

The Srz is great but maybe i'm off track. I'm looking for an amp that will do the the Audley, Marc Ford, Can't remember the guitar players name for Lenny Kravitz, and you can't forget Peter Stroud.. Don't get me wrong I love to really rock but I don't want a fuzzy distortion. I run a Tremoverb now but both sides on Orange(Vintage) and the drive like 12 o'clock... I like it crunchy that will clean up, and I like to put the little extra with and OD pedal when needed. I think I'll probly get one and later that other. What should I start with? I'm planning a trip to Chicago for my Birthday in Dec so I cant try out a bunch of Z's and other amps..

The only time an SRZ (or a 6545, which is what I have) will get 'fuzzy' is if you crank the gain control into hot-rodded JCM800 territory. I prefer the gain around noon with the volume up enough to push the map so it sounds more plexi-like. And it'll clean up very well either with a roll-off of the guitar's volume or a lower setting on the gain control. You'll get Peter Stroud if you pair it with an open back cab, but a closed back Z Best will place you nicely in the Black Crowes camp.

Just got a Crate VFX 212 open back combowith Tonetubbys and I paired it with my Mesa Recto 2x12 and I have to say you hit it on the head about the openback / closed back references. I sold that what ever I do, I will have to have 2 cabs because they sound fantastic combined.

Just read this...
GP: What kind of amps are you using onstage?
AF: I have a Bogner Ecstasy and a Fender Tone Master. I mainly use the clean channel on the Bogner and just turn it up - which is kind of a waste because it has so many other sounds. The Tone Master is primarily for the clean stuff and it's a good substitute for my old Fender Dual Showman, which I don't bring on the road because of reliability issues. I run the Bogner and Fender heads into two open-back Matchless 4x12 cabs that are loaded with 8W Celestion Vintage 30s. I just switch between them - I never use both amps at the same time. I also had my tech wire one of the Matchless cabs for stereo operation so I can run both heads into one cabinet when we're playing a smaller place. Another amp I might put into the live setup is a Dr Z KT45, though it's not quite loud enough for this band.
