Hey GT'ers, anyone tried the GT through 2 blues. Wouldn't be my first choice of speaker combination for the GT but no prizes for guessing where I'm going with this!

'Mornin' Jaye, The GT sounds real good through Greenbacks, and to my ears, Blues are Alnico Greenbacks. Thus, while LOUD, I would expect the GT to sound OK through a pair of Blues, until it smoked'em (estimated time to smoke; 5 minutes).
If your thinking; Stangray/GT proto, my bet would be a Greenback pair OR Greenback/G12H pairing.

Another +1 for GT and 2x12 Greenbacks open back cab. Like Curt said. Now 2x12 C-Blues open back cab and Ray is tonal bliss. ;D

I was recently going to order a GT. However because I currently have an open-back 212 with Blues that I use with my Rx Jr, I decided to order a head that wouldn't melt them (that way I don't have to buy a new 212 at this time!). So, I ordered a Maz Jr and soon I'll get a Stangray as well. Later this year I will get a GT and I will likely get a Z-Best cab as well to mate up with that one. I have an Orange Tiny Terror that should benefit from the punch of the Z-Best as well. Ah, the joy of new amps I may be a fool, but I get as much pleasure out of just looking at the amp sitting on my floor! The Red Head Zs (well, any colour really ) are just conversation pieces!!!!!!! FWIW: 90% of the EBB "July Rain" CD was recorded with a GT into a single Greenback.

Thanks guys and nice to hear from you Curt. I must check that CD out. And yes, you guessed where I was going with the GT/Stang thing. I'm thinking a G12H/Gold might be a cool combo for that amp but it would be best to test a bunch I reckon.

I've never played a GT but I'm a huge fan of a single greenie through many sub 30 watt amps. It's almost the perfect woody midrange tone. If the amp is too bright a single g12h (scumback make some fine speakers) are even a better choice. That said a single 12 and Carmen Ghia go together like "butter and chicken". ;D

I kinda like the idea of 4-12 with Greenies for the GT or the StangGT. I don't mind luggin' if it's worth it! Wonder if anyone has tried a stangray through a quad? The RXES sure sounded good...no, awesome.

Yes, but what about a StangrayGT ? Is the Z best gonna be the best speaker/cab for that amp if it's released. I sure hope so 'cause I have the Z-Best! Obviously a single Gold would work quite well too. Or two G12H's in an open back...there is a lot of options that would work I bet. Still like the idea of the 'ray by itself but that GT side is very very tempting.

I think if I had that amp I'd change the V30 out of my Z-Best for an Alnico Gold and leave the G12H in there for the bottom end. That seems to me to be about perfect, but I haven't tried it yet. Need more Golds to do that...

So for me, I'd suspect the Ray'Gt Hybrid to schmoke > Z Best. Yes, I march to my own (tone) drummer................

I've got an open back 2x12 cab loaded w/ a Celestion Gold and a Weber Silver Bell. It sounds awesome w/ both the Ray and the GT. I still like the Ray thru the Blues for something a bit different though.

I have an Orange Tiny Terror that should benefit from the punch of the Z-Best as well. During my initial Z quest (which ended, for the time being with a Mini Z head) I played both a stock and a heavily modded Tiny Terror through a Z-Best and while it wasn't exactly what I was looking for it did sound pretty huge. Cool classic rock setup though. Tas: +1 on Curt's cool GT tones on 'July Rain'. Definitely worth a listen!
