I got my RXJr back from Drew last Friday after a temp/loan deal. Gigged it Saturday with a Bob Burt 2x10 cab I recently acquired, the cab is loaded with Weber Alnico 10's, 1 Blue pup, 1 silver pup.
Let me tell you this is a great match, I have the amp cookin', it was 'almost" too loud I thought on stage, but each break someone different approached me telling me to turn up !
NEVER, ever, ever have I been told to turn up !
The tone sat in the mix so well it was not at all piercing, what a blast, by nights end the master was full up and the front volume on #8, a BB and Rc were used as needed, also was using my Hot Rails Loaded Tele which is a fairly loud guitar.
Anyway, not much noise here about RXJr w/2x10's but this combo killed. ;D
New band, new rig, new enthusiasim..too cool.
As you were..............

I have posted about using 2x10 cabinet but I have the Ceramic Silver and Blue Webers. I need the efficiency to keep up with Tommy! I let Buddy try it with that same config and he seemed to really like it!! The bottom really punches with the 10s!

I've been wondering about my RXJr through 2x10s. Now, if I only knew someone with a 2x10 cab in Texas... ;-)

Anybody using an RXJr with Doc's 2x10 convertible cab? I've been wondering how it might sound alone or with my 1x12 Blue. I don't have nay experience with Doc's 10s but it sounds like the Weber Pups are killer!

Can you give me an idea of the tonal differences between the 1x12 and the 2x10?

I've tried both 1x12 with a celestion blue and a 2x10 with a blue pup/silver combo. I prefer the 2x10 overall, but I'm partial to 10s. The Celestion was also new so it sounded a tad "flubby" to me, I just need to take the time to break it in.

Hope I'm not highjacking the thread, but..
I've got an RxJr on the way and think I'd like a 210. I don't know if I'd prefer the Dr's cabinet with his speakers (old style, open back), or a similarly sized one with Weber Blue/Silver ceramics. Say the price is the same.. what would you pick?
thanks.. eric

Eric, I think it depends if you like the huge sound of the Z cabs.

Eric,
The Z-10's are much more efficient (louder) then the Weber speakers. I personally like a less efficient speaker.
As far as cabs go, unless you are talking a Z-Best (w/ Thiele porting and all), I think other cabs would give you satisfactory results. This may be heresy on a Z forum, but I have a hard time justifying the money for the Z cabs (although I'm really working on it ;D).

The convertible Z cabs sound really big. I have a 1x12 with a C-Blue and a 1x12 with a G12H30. They sound incredible together! I don't regret the additional expense of the Z cabs. YMMV.

Guy's I ran across an article from Doc. It was when he was doing his own 10"speakers. The article went on to explain why a normal set of 2x10 sound loud when your close and get to thin when your 20 feet away. Maybe that's why the crowd wanted you to TURN IT UP.
Doc went on with some technical answers as to how he had solved that problem of thinness with his own personal speakers. Anyone wants the link I can post it. Have to re find it again.
But I had always heard that a 12 " had more range than a pair of 10".
Anyone really into which speakers to use would find this article very useful

If I remember correctly, Z uses a Lens on some of his cabinets that make the 10s seem like 12s. I believe the baffle is doubled with the speakers rear mounted. Whatever he does it works.

Put simply the Z2x10 and the RXjr is a match made in heaven. It's super tight, warm, no icepick, and very 3 dimensional. It's not what I was expecting from 10's at all and I couldn't be happier. My Greenback is going to get a little lonely now. Although it was pretty cool running both cabs into the 4 ohm out.

I just recently traded an extra Galaxie head for an RXJr and have run it with my older style Z 2x10 cab. It definitely seems brighter than I am used to, but I really like the 2x10s (in my Galaxie combo and Ghia). Anyhow here is a video of the RXJr and 2x10 at the jam with a Lentz SSL. Lots of messin around on this video with the cameraman - etc. A short guitar solo around the 5:50 mark.
I am still not decided on whether I like the RXJr with the 2x10s - gonna give my ears some time with it. Have also tried it with a 1x12 Greenback.
