Has anyone mated the EZG-50 with the convertible 2x10 in the open backed configuration? How were the results. How did it fare compared to the 4x10 if you have experience with both?
Thanks in advance!

I have the new 2x10 and I use it open back. Works great with the EZG-50, good bass and a nice tight response. I also have an older Z 2x10 cab that I ran together with my new one... so a 4x10 grouping. I liked that a little better as the combination just seemed relaxed and made for each other. I would have no problem recommending the amp with just the 2x10 cab.

Any thoughts on what pairing this head with a Z 212 open back with Greenbacks would be like?

Basementhack I have a Swart 2x12 cab with Greenbacks that I'll try. I think the Greenbacks would lower the volume a little and give an earlier breakup.

Here's my dilema.
I love the way the 10's sound with my Maz Jr. I thought the 4x10 sounded great with the EZG-50.
I'd like to have 2 heads, and 2 cabs. So if I pick up the EZG-50 would the 4x10 be redundant with my 2x10 convertible? Do I pick up a Z-Best to pair with the Jr and use the 2x10 with the EZG-50, or just get a 4x10 to go with the EZG-50?
Hmmm...

i love the 2x10 Z cab with my Maz Jr. i wouldn't change that if i were you. there have been some spectacular comments about the EZG-50 with the Z 4x10. i don't think that would be redundant with your 2x10, especially if you did some speaker swaps. Greenbacks seem to be getting pretty universal priase with the EZG. my 2x12 avatar cab with Heritage grennies sounds really sweet. perhaps a 4x10 with 10" greenbacks, or a mix of the Z 10s and greenbacks, or a mix of the Z 10s with a greenback clone closer in wattage to the Z 10s. so many great choices. i can understand your dilemma, and i have probably only confused you even more. :-) i don't think you can lose anyway you go. just depends what sound and volume levels you're going for. let us know what you decide.

I'm getting ready to get a new amp, and I'm fairly sure that the Evan will be the one. I'm really considering a 2x10 cab, so i'm glad to hear that you guys like them with 2x10s. I don't really want to carry around a 4x10 cab.
I'm also thinking about converting my 2x12 cab to celestion golds. I think that would be a good option as well.

My fave is still the 4x10!!! 10's for me are definately where it's at. The 2x10 cab with the Evan has a real great punch to it too

I think that would be a good option as well. generally speaking, i have always gravitated toward ceramic magnet speakers as opposed to alnico (so i perhaps have a little bias). that being said, the Golds have not received such stellar reviews with the EZG. i'm sure others will chime in on this. but if you're specifically looking for speakers that will match well with the EZG, the Golds may not be the ticket.

I love the 10's with the EZG.
As for 12's the G-12-65 is the ticket. The Golds are a bit plump in the MIDS and doesn't suit the EZG's slight scooped tone IMHO.

DR.Z Your 10's are definitely butt-kickers! We just played up at the Quaker steak and Lube in Sheffield, and I can't recall having an easier time mic'ing my amp up. Just casually dangle an SM57 over the front of the 2x10 convertible and go! Sounded fantastic! Two shows with big sound companies over the past couple week and the same comments. "What kind of speakers are those? They are easy to get into the mains!" I have to agree. Punchy, with enough highs to cut! Perfect. I've been lookin' all night to see who has a blonde 4x10 in stock. Anyone know where I can get one?

I think Mak'n Music in Chicago has at least one 4X10; maybe two, but they're red and black, not blonde. You might want to give them a call. I'm 99% sure that my "usual" Z dealers (Fat Sound and Willcutt's) don't have any 4X10's.

sounds like the Z 4x10 is the hands down recommendation for the EZG, with the Z 2x10 being a really good alternative, as well as greenbacks in various configurations. all this discussion of the 4x10 is tempting, but i just wouldn't be able to use it to it's full potential. i'll just keep on enjoying the 2x10 and the avatar 2x12 with Heritage greenbacks, and then live vicariously through those of you who have the 4x10.

I've been using the EZG-50 now with the convertible 2x10 cabinet (closed) for a couple of weeks. This combination has a superb, smoky-tone, plus it's easy to lug around. Surprising amount of bass out of this small cabinet. Haven't tried the open-back feature yet, as the closed-back sounds so good. MeZa

John 'English Dude' Priest fixed me up w/ a Senior head and a 2x10 convertible cab (w/ the back off) for some UK gigs I had after my amp went back in storage in Berlin 'til the next trip starts up.. AMAZING amount of low end from that cab! I had to turn the bass nearly OFF. Makes me wonder what I've been missin' all these years w/ the single 12. I'd like to hear that cab w/ an 18 watter I was really surprised that a pair o' 10's could sound so 'full range'. Just goes to show ya how much the speakers AND the cab design have to do w/ the overall sound.

Well it won't be real long now, and I'll be playing an EZG-50 through a Z 4X10.
It's all your fault English John!
Maz Jr with 2x10 convertible, EZG-50 with 4X10, or any combination of the above. Should cover my amp needs pretty well!

Ahhh, all this 4-10 talk is driving me nuts. My bro in law has a Dr Z 4-10 cab but one speaker doesn't work and he hasn't got it fixed. I've been hangin' to try it out for a couple years now.

I know that everyone love the evan with a 4 10 cab, but I just got mine home with the 2x10 convertible cab. I listened with the back on for a while, then took the back off. The open back 2x10 makes a great cab for the Evan. I got the 2x10 just because it will be easier to get in and out of the small club I play. I was very impressed with the size and weight of the 2x10. it is light weight for a speaker cab, and it still sounds huge when you get it going. Those Dr Z 10s are great speakers.
I'll report back with more after I have done some more playing and listening.
