i posted a similar question in the EZG-50 section, but this may the better location to post my question...
can a 5U4GB recto be used with the EZG-50? i thought this was going to be the stock rectifier with the EZG, but it seems the Doc changed his mind and went with the 5AR4/GZ34.

Yes a 5U4 can be used. The bias will need adjusting though , increased to compensate for lower plate voltage with 5U4.
The amp takes on a bit of a tweedy tone , thicker and more compressed tone with a 5U4. I like the brilliance and spank of the 5AR4 standard in the EZG.
