Doc: can you post some pics of the black and the red head? that blonde head sure is perty!!! i really like the 2-tone action. the black chassis looks great with the blonde tolex. i assume the black chassis is consistent in all colors, which would mean that the black head is all black. yes? thanks.

I was thinking the same one as in the Galaxie combo but in the 1x12 cab. That's a 65 watt speaker if I'm not mistaken.

I'm pretty sure thats what the good Doc will go with as well. Something fairly neutral that won't colour the sound too much if there is such a thing.

this one is really causing me pain... Me too. I have not been thinking about another amp much at all (well, except that little bit of wanting over a Ghia and a Rt66, but what the hey) until I saw this one pop up. Dang... that two knob reverb; those pre and post volumes; that three band eq; those 50 watts; those 6L6's.... AAAAAUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHHH!

I haven't played or heard the EZG-50 myself, but tonight I spoke with someone who has played it ... and this person is intimately familiar with the entire Z amp line. Their one-word description of the EZG-50?

Hey Ward, Welcome aboard! I'm not plugged in enough to know the answers to most of your questions....... But the last one I may able to help with. If you go to the first post on this thread you'll see that the price for a head is $1799. Doesn't look like there are any other options at this point. Maybe someone else can help with the other questions. Later, Brian

Hmmm--I have a nice red Z-Best with a Tonker and Swamp Thang. I wonder if that woud be a good matchup with Evan?

i am so GASing for this new Z. from the number of early postings i can see others are quite interested as well. those going to Z-Fest will get a sweet treat, being some of the first to play this amp. i'm looking forward to the post Z-Fest reviews.

I just like the blue light. "See honey, I really need an amp with a blue light. All my other amps have red lights and I've got to keep up with technology!"

when i get one, i'll likely run it with my Dr Z 2x10 convertible... so i'll have the option. but in a 2x12 cab, i'd probably go with open back.

"will it be a solid state loop"
We don't take kindly to ICs and transistors around these parts!
Anyways... there is no loop. We have quite a few chassis built up, but they are not tubed up and will not be ready for shipping until the end of this month. Be patient they sound sweet!

Will these amps have a big, tight, bottom end? I'm assuming so...also how about the noise level? Will it be fairly low. I have a Class A amp right now that's pretty noisy.

I just finished comparing my Delta 88 to my EZG-50 tonight and while they are very different amps, through the same Z-Best cab the EZG has *way* more low end. It sounds like it's an octave lower.. and it's tight. I wouldn't have thought that was possible, but it's true.
As for the noise level, the EZG is extremely quiet. You don't even know it's on until you hit a note.

Lovin' my Evan!! I put a 5751 in V1 and it added more clean room. Very cool amp. The Verb is to die for and the pre/post section offers many tones in conjunction with guitar controls. It has the sweet sparkle to it with dimension that I haven't heard before. The bass controls is awesome for switching to Hums just zero it out and its tight but not abscent. I just put in my order for a 4X10 cause that seems like the match even though the amp sounded fine with 2X12 open back as well as closed. Austin Speakerworks 70's sound fantastic with this amp!! CL80's sound good and believe or not Heritage Greenbacks sounded killer for crunch and rolled back guitar volume for cleans. V-30's--- not so good!! I'm gonna rehearse tonight with it and report back on the in the mix tones. For some reason I feel not a damn worry in the world about it!!!!!!!

Not that I would know the difference, but is the ezg 50 class a or ab? It's fixed bias class AB, just like the blackface Fenders.

This is day two with Evan and I have to tell you that this is it. After playing a Fender Hotrod Delux (112) for the better part of a decade, I had my finger on the trigger to buy a new handmade Vibroverb a few months ago when I found out that Z was coming out with a blackface. I hadn’t heard it yet, but something told me hold off on the fender.
I have loved Supers and Vibroverbs for as long as I can rember, but I can honestly say that the EZG 50 is better. I think the biggest supprise for me was how awsome the thing is at Jazz (melody and chords). Moreso than ever, I am having a very time sticking to I-IV-V type blues. It just wants to go all over the place.
Well done and thank you Dr. Z.
Also; #32

I've spent the afternoon using the EZG-50 through my old '68 Fender Dual Showman cabinet. This amp sounds phenomenal through it. I A/B'd with the Z 2x10, and the big old speaker cabinet w/2 15's definitely wins. It's nice to breathe some life back into it. I bought the Dual Showman new in 1968, and lugged it around for quite a few years, until it was relegated to the garage for about the last 30. I sold the head back around 1970 and had replaced it with a Marshall 50W head for about 4 years. When Fender came out with the Quad Reverb, I bought that, sold the Marshall head and retired the cabinet. Pix: MeZadude
