When you mentioning these tones is there really a difference in volumes as you move the nobs around? The BF Twin tones is this a clean Bf Twin or a cranked? Louder than the Z-28 cranked right?
I really like what you say and what I'm hearing i your sound clips. I have been going around and around in my head about what the next step should be. The Mesa is collecting dust so it needs to go. The EZG seams tempting as it seams to be the clean cleanish mate to the Z-28 + reverb, but then think about loosing that Mesa sound when I need it. Which is not often.

Dave,
I'd say volume-wise, the Galaxie's clean channel is probably about maxed at 1:00 o'clock. After that, it starts getting a little hair on it.
The dirty channel get maxed at about 10:30/11:00. The grind just gets bigger. The tone controls, and the presence control make a HUGE impact on the sound/grit tho.
As for the Z-28 comparison, I have never played 1. But, given the power ratings of both amps, I would suspect the Galaxie is quite a bit louder. Groover can help you there for sure. He owns both.

Dave I have both the Z-28 and Galaxie and although the Galaxie is louder than the 28, as Tony stated, it starts to get some hair on it by about 1' o clock.
The twin reverb is famous for it's wonderful big clean tone but also gets dirty when cranked but it's overdrive is a little different than the Galaxie. If you have ever heard a tweed pro or tremolux this is the kind of ballpark that the Galaxie is in. To my ears Joe Walsh's Funk 49 is a great example of it's tone. There's clean there but lots of gritty overtones going on as well. If you are looking for a fatter, cleaner surf type sound than that then I think you are going to have to go for the EZG-50.
