Weird choice of adjectives, I know...but since I cannot try one out, wondering how fat and punchy it is, for use in a band. And if it is, does the amp retain that when you roll the vol down to 5 or 6 on the guitar? I haven't seen or heard much in the way of riffing/strumming rhythm sound samples for the GT on the web.
Thanks much, Brandon

Short answer, yes it can be. I am not the best at describing tone, but I will give it a shot. The GT has a very full sound. Extremely rich gain with sustain for days. If you are hitting power chords playing rhythm it will be heard, and shine. It has been compared to both a Trainwreck and a Marshall but it is not either, but to my ears the best of both. I think it has more gain than the wreck I have heard (one liverpool), it can sound "marshally" when playing power chords, only difference being the far more note to note definition. It cleans up much better than a marshall, roll off the guitar volume and the shimmery cleans are right there. I think the "shimmery" sound is where it gets the wreck reference. It is very gainy, but controllable, pick dynamics play into your sound more some than with many other high gain amps I have played. I noodle around playing VH, ACDC, Metallica, etc and it puts the "power" in power chord. I tried playing it with two V30's, that was not the mix, but a closed back with a V30 and a G12H has been magic for me.

Brandon, yeah fat and punchy even by rolling back the guitar volume for crunch or clean.

Punchy. Oh yes. Fat yes too. The amp provides some of the best palm muted tones I have ever experienced. A lot depends on the speakers and cab though. This amp begs for a 4x12 but it sounds pretty flippin' good with a Z-best cab as well.
Cheers Larry

Great 'feedback' guys! What about using the GT with a 1x12 cab with an inefficient speaker - like a 30 watt silver bell or a 2x12 with blues with this amp? I would think that may tame the volume a bit? The volume-to-get-the-goods ratio is the only thing that is keeping me from ordering one this very moment...lol.

prsnstrat-
I wouldn't use the GT with a 30W speaker- it's a about a 45W amp. I think I would trust it with a 50W speaker, say a Weber Blue Dog or Silver Bell though. It is very loud when it "gives up the goods" but the good news is that the GT works very very well with the Dr. Z Airbrake.
Hogridr is right on with his comments. It sounds *incredible* with a Z-Best (G12H30/V30).

It sounds *incredible* with a Z-Best (G12H30/V30). Oh yeah, Phil is absolutely right about the GT paired with a stock ZBest cab. Fantastic match!

Z-best sounds great. I am playing it through a Port City 2x12 with a V30 and G12H, it sounds excellent. I actually picked this cab up used a few miles from Stu's Fat Sound. Mike let me bring it in and play with a GT, we played the Z-best then this. It is not as loud as the Z-Best, but it is loud for a 2x12. It sounds very similar to the Z cab. At the time I played it, there were still two V30's in it. Mike agreed that it would be an excellent cab for the GT if I pulled one v30. I did so as soon as I got home, I am thrilled.

Very cool cab, thanks for posting a pic of it! Wow.
I have a 2x12 Bogner OS cab with a slightly open back loaded with 30watt Ceramic Blue dog and a Hellatone G12H30. I like the combo. The v30/G12H is GREAT too, especially for rawk!

I cut 90% of July Rain with the GT > a single Greenback, GT at 9/9:30, sounded killer, manageable volume and killer tones from country-ish to Nugent

That's a "25W" speaker! Are those underrated wattage wise? I would have thought that the Greenie would have blown......

Phil this ol Greenie has been pounded by a few Route 66's, and SRZ, GT, RXES and most other Z's and survived. It's, uh, broken in
