For any of you GT owners, I was listening to the clips of the Mazerati GT from the Dr. Z fest (on crappy computer speakers) and to me it sounded somewhat Who Live at Leeds...ish.
Am I way off on this?
Can you get the Pete Townshend type sound out of this amp?
Thanks.

The Hiwatts never had the gain and harmonic structure that a Mazerati GT has. Not even close.

Don -
Thanks for the response. So, I am way off base here.
Holy *%!^ I'm surprised you have any hearing left. What the heck was that like standing in front of 4 Hiwatts?
How would you describe the gain and harmonic structure differences between the GT vs. a Hiwatt?
Thanks again.

Then I also tried putting a cab on each side of the stage facing inwards, so no matter where I was on the stage, I heard myself. We were on some pretty good sized stages too, so we weren't blowing each other away. Back then, I always used an old MXR compressor for my lead breaks, whereas the GT needs no pedal at all. Playing my GT as opposed to the Hiwatt is like opening the flood gates; in that your guitar feels like it's connected right to the power tubes. You can feel it all, and you can hear every note in the chords. This is a very full, warm and melodic sounding amp. I should also add here, that when you plug it into a stock ZBest, oh my!!!

Thanks for the dose of Z-Gas... It sounds like I have to save my pennies for the GT into a Z best.

I believe the KT45 is more the "live at Leeds" vibe. I believe the Mazerati GT is more "Live without a net"! ;D ;D ;D

Funny you say that. I tried a Dr Z Stangray the other day and was trying to think of what I could possibly compare it to when telling my friend about it. There certainly are some Hiwatt-ish qualities, but I agree with everyone else's sentiments as well. Playing through the Stangray was like An AC30, a Hiwatt, and a Fender gave birth to a Superhuman amp you could never possibly imagine. I also played a Z-28, and the Carmen Ghia, all thru a Z-Best. I am seriously considering selling all of my amps and replacing them with Dr. Z's. I might have a hawk a few guitars as well.

Apparently!
I basically decided to host my own Amp Contest and compare a comparable model Dr Z to each of my own.
Obviously, there are some essential differences between these, but they have similar tube arrangements, power output, etc.
Original Fender Super Champ '82 vs. Z-28:
My old SC sounds great, and don't know if I can let go of it, but I might just get a Z-28 in addition! Honestly, if I didn't already own the SC and wasn't so attached to it, I would go with a Z-28, no comparison
Orange AD15 vs. Carmen Ghia
This was the only one I was not 100% sold on. The AD15 is a fantastic amp, but its also very different from the Carmen Ghia........I really might have to go back for a second round.
Orange AD30r vs. Stang Ray
No contest, not even fair. The Stangy Ray sounds and feels 1000000% better than my AD30, which I think will be the first to traded in!

The KT45 has the "Live at Leeds" tone, if that's what you're looking for. The Mazerati GT is Doc showcasing what he learned from Ken Fischer, the guy who built the legendary Trainwreck amps. It's hard to classify a GT, and I've only played one a little bit. But try to imagine a Vox on massive amounts of steroids. Great amp.

Steroids ain't the word,, and can't wait to get a Z best 2-12 Cab,, But that 1-12 Z cab is pulling like a Gov't Mule Plus gonna build my own Cab, with a Gold and Blue and Mod the cab in a radical way, The GT and RXES together w/ a A/B switch,, (ouch)
