...a small to medium club gig? I have a Ghia and its just not enough, but I keep reading that the GT is killer loud. How does it sound at a less than cranked volume setting? Is it considerably louder than a Mazerati (pre GT)?

When I bought my GT, I made sure the dealer sent me an Air Brake with it. Yes, it is one heck of a loud amp, but the Air Brake tames it very nicely and makes it very usable for small to mid-size clubs and venues.

+1 Get the Airbrake with it, or you'll be getting it after. Great amp, but it's pretty loud. 38 watts!

I recon 1/2 past 9 into my inefficient 1-12 will be just about perfect for small medium gigs unattenuated. But what do I know, and why am I talking like I'm getting one!!! My next amp is SUPPOSED to be my sweet clean amp. RXES or Stang or Ulbrick Verbovibe 30 (or all) This thing keeps getting in the way.

"Less than cranked volume setting"? What's that? The GT is either "on" or "off". You really do need an Airbrake to set the overall volume, and use your guitar's volume control to control gain levels from clean to balls-to-the-wall. I don't have a ""normal" Mazerati to compare it to (Don does!) but my gut instinct tells me that it's as loud as the previous Mazerati when *cranked* AND hit with a booster in front. All the time. I kind of wish that the Doc hadn't named it the "Mazerati GT". I don't even think of the two amps as related; actually there's not much in common internally between the two.

Phil, you nailed it! Perfect description of how the GT works. It's really so subjective as to how loud is too loud for person to person. Are you in a 1 guitar or 2 guitar band, etc. but it is a loud sucka and the volume knob on it will only make subtle changes in overall volume. It is the best amp ive owned to date for me tho! Red #007! Licence to kill!

Telemanic, I second your statement. For me it´s the best amp I have owned too. My other Z is a MazJrNr. The GT is by far the fattest sounding amp I played. Very easy to dial in the right amount of overdriven sound. By turning back the volume knob on the amp I can get a very nice and fat clean sound. But I can get that clean sound also by turning back the volume knob on the guitar, full on a nice overdriven sound, very versatile. No pedals are needed. I play without reverb or delay pedals. For my style of playing I don´t need more gain than 10 o´clock on the volume knob with a Strat or Tele. Though it´s all personal taste - not to forget. Take care slide players this amp likes your slides. Some vibrato on the slide and the note is ringing till tomorrow.
