...last night, and it was fascinating. From working with the GT here, I figured I'd probably run the volume right at about 9-10 o'clock. I was wrong. After switching to the GT several times, I started inching the volume up (to get more saturation) until I had it right at noon. Holy cow - perfect level of saturation for my playing, yet every note was separate and distinct no matter how fast I played them. This puppy has articulation like I've never heard before. It didn't quite sound as I had expected, but it cut through like a knife. It's amazing how a full stage of other players (and a bass amp right next to mine) changes your perceptions of things. The other thing was the sustain - at noon this amp is very much in the zone of hit a note and let it sing until you're done with it. That really changes how you approach playing a solo, because now you can hit a note, wiggle it, bend it, pinch it, whatever, and it totally cooperates with your approach. That is a lot of fun, believe me. Anyway, I think I've stumbled on the perfect amp for the dual head strategy, because I can set the level of saturation and I don't really have to worry about anything else. I ran the Airbrake at 3 clicks all night, and it was just about perfect level-wise (I did get a scowl once or twice...), which is just exactly where I had the Stingray's Airbrake set. Perfect!

Sounds like you have it all figured out. So you played the GT with the Stingray, what speakers did you use? You got it all the way up to noon huh? How big was the room? I am envisioning teaming the GT with my ES. May still get a Ray. I have to play the settings speaker combo game with the GT and ES and see how it works.

Good sized room, but we're mic'd so I could have probably played quieter, but that's not the drummer's philosophy, so... I used the 2x12 THD cab with Alinco Golds in it, wired stereo. One Gold for each amp. Worked fine, but I think the GT would like a ceramic speaker next time. I think I'm leaning towards a Z 2x12 open back with a Gold for the Stingray, and a G12H30 for whatever other amp I bring to the party. It seems that would be just about perfect, but I have yet to try it, so we shall see....
