Curious, what speaker are you going to? I'm going with the G12H for now. Eventually I'll end up with a Weber Blue Dog.

For my RxJS, it's the Gold all the way. They compliment each other so well.

I just got my blonde Jr. yesterday. I will go out on a limb, and do not mean to offend anybody here or anywhere, but I sold my 65 London as it was good, but I didn't feel like it suited my liking as much as a $3000.00 amp should. The second I plugged in my jr. I automatically knew this is the sound I was hoping to find. I had all these fears it was going to be too bright, too fizzy, too this or that, and it's too perfect. The snap and slight compression is in there, the eq is responsive, but I think it sounds stellar with the controls straight up at 12 o'clock. The master is cool as it's subtle, and with it dimed, there is no noise whatsoever. And the big test for me was playing my different guitars through it. With the London, I was going to change the pickups in my Les Paul. Not now. All guitars sound great through it.
And to contradict what a poster said about the boost function. I think it does what it's supposed to do. It seems to make the amp a little brighter, which is nice, because when the amp is in distortion, you'll appreciate not having to compensate for the loss of high end during a solo.
This amp even sounds great in my ear candy 2 x 12 with a Cannabis Rex and Private Jack. I've recently ordered my own special concoction from Ted Weber, so I'm hoping I didn't screw the pooch on that.
All and all, I couldn't be more pleased with my new amp. Of course, I've never been dissatisfied with any Z amps, but this one's definitely a keeper for me. And to think what we can get these great amps for new, it's one of the last great deals on the planet.

These things ship with 5Y3's. BTW, what was the tonal diff. between the two?

I agree Steve, but the Strat and Lester seem to shine with it to my ears I like it with the G12H over other speakers too so go figger I seem to like odd ball tonal concotions One thing, the OD is not so good to me...unless the volume is dimed, then the boost is near perfect ;D another observation, the lo imput/boost on seems identical to the Hi imput/boost off Also, Steve was 100% correct about the smile eq, I find i run the mids max and treble/bass pulled WAY back to 9:00

Did you post that somewhere?? well there ya go, I may NOT be looney after all! Well J, 'Keeper" is relative here @ OMS, but yes, it is. Not to take away how gigable I expect this amp to be, but this might be the best 'Bedroom" amp I have ever played, it sounds really good down low, just a blast to play, can dial in a mini 'Ray sound no problem.

Yeah, and that makes it a great amp for recording because you don't have to bother the neighbors for ten blocks each way.

Did you post that somewhere?? well there ya go, I may NOT be looney after all! Yep, I noticed with the Low input/ OD ON at lower volumes it becomes less of an OD and just makes the amp as fat with the volume low, as it is with the OD OFF and the volume cranked... So basically you can get that nice fat cranked tone at lower volumes... VERY cool and yes it's gonna be my recording go to amp from now on... if I ever get to record anything again, and that might be our next goal down this-a-way.

Well.........about 2 hrs away from the inaugural live test for the rxJR. Me = stoked!!!!!
I spent a good portion of the day tweaking this thing and learning its secrets and the biggest epiphany I had was that the best sounding drive pedal for this amp is simply the one that comes with it. I tried my BB, LTD, an RC..........non of 'em sounds half as good as the good Doc's "overdose" switch.
Tonight it's my RXJR, my R6 a TREX delay, analogman chorus a tuner and a 2x12 open back with greenback and g12h30. Should be killer!

I gigged my rxjr last sat. evening........ I was tired and didn't wanna lugg the z best so I just brought a single g12h30 in on oldstyle open back z cab. The rxjr did an awesome job and was so easy to use. The club owner came by after the 3rd song and asked us to turn down a little.............no problem. Just a quick "Fake" turn of the MV. (That's why it's good that the MV is on the back.......you can make a big fuss like you are fiddeling with the volume, but, actually do nothing ) Anyway..............nothing new here. Just a confirmation for you guys on the fence that this amp is versatile and loud enough. I got Plenty of clean headroom.......ran a compressor to sweeten up and balance out the cleans. I got all my dirt from an AC and BB. I covered all tones from clean to mean. Because I was using pedals, I tended not to use the amps overdose........ Just a fine fine amp! Thanks Doc.

I've been running my RX Jr the same way and getting very good results. I really don't need the OD on at rehearsals or just basement wanking. Probably saves tube life too.
