Well, after much thought, I think a RXJR is gonna be my next Z. I was originally gonna trade my Maz Jr for a Sr, but now I think a RXJR is gonna fit the bill better. Don't get me wrong, I love my Maz, but I want a little more clean headroom at higher volumes and I just think a Maz Sr will be too loud. Plus I want something that has a little more focused tone as opposed to having a swiss army knife. The features of the RXJR also are appealing (boost, still has a master volume, ef86 pre, still relatively low powered,etc.).
So I think this is the one. I also have a 212 open back Z cab with Weber Alnico Blue and Silver to go with it. I play a wide variety of stuff mostly at home, but I can also crank it up when I want to. Country, rock, etc., etc. are my main tastes in music. Listening to some of Steve's (benttop) clips was also very helpful. So what do you guys think? Is this a logical step or am I just looking for another reason to buy an amp? :-)

Well if you WERE going from a Jr. to a Sr. This is a 15 watt amp. It gets plenty of cleans and it will do country and rock and be good for home and gigs, but was the thought of going to a Sr. just for the clean headroom? If it was volume, the RxJr. won't be the right choice I don't think. The RxJr. has plenty of clean headroom but so does the Maz Jr. I haven't tried to figure out which one has more, but they are close in that regard... the EF86 plays a definite role in the RxJr. sound. I like both amps alot but right now I'm still on the honeymoon and having a blast with the RxJr. Steves clips will help ya figure it out. I'd try to keep the Maz Jr. and work out a way to own both!!

Yeah, the switch to a Sr was for the headroom, not the overall volume. 38 watts is just a little too much for my needs, 15 watts is all I will need for a while. Like I said, I also like the character that the Rxjr has. It seems to have it's own, more focused, voice. Owning the Maz jr, with it's broad spectrum of tones, has helped me to figure out what tone it is that I'm looking for- good cleans with some hair but also a lot of punch. You know how hard it is to define THAT tone you're looking for with words.... and if I need some dirt, I've got a few pedals to help with that. Thanks for the reply, maybe I defined a little better what I'm going after.

I had a Maz 38 GREAT but too loud even for gigs 0 to 300 folks. I had a Maz Jr. head and I now have a Rx Jr. Head and I love it...That said; If it wasn't the Money thing I would like to have kept both the RX Jr. and the Maz Jr.. Since I cant only have one It's the RX Jr!! Maybe when the GUITAR FUND gets back up there $$ I'll get another MAZ Jr. or a RAY.

Thanks Greg, I wish I could keep both too, but the wifey wouldn't approve and the kiddies need shoes :-). So, the Rxjr it is. Now I've gotta figure out how long I have to wait for one from the local music store..... And the wait begins......

mitch8686, I can tell you that I like owning both the JR and the RXJR....... Each amp does something that the other doesn't do........and of course they do intersect. It's kinda like owning a tele and a strat. Nice to be able to switch between the 2 when your ears get tired of one. just my .02 I don't think you will notice much diff. in clean headroom between your maz and the rxjr though. The cleans are just a little different sounding. Maz can get more fendery.......rxjr can get more rxjr'y.

Funny you mention that Greg, that's the exact one was looking at! I gotta wait til this Friday to pull the trigger, though. I hope no one snags it before then. Maybe I'll give him a call on Monday an see if he'll hold it for me. I was just gonna trade here locally, but, I think selling mine outright is the way to go. That blonde and black cab looks cool too! Eventhough my speaker cab is all black, I think the blonde will be a cool contrast...... Man I've got some serious GAS pains going on :-)
Here's some K for the heads up!

Just FYI!

Well, I called Willcutt's today and they're out of RXJR's. Kinda sux cause I was really diggin the blonde and black two-tone.:-( But, they're supposed to call me and let me know when another one will be in so, all is not lost.
Something odd though, over the phone, I was told that two-tone was $100 more. But, on the site, the 'JR that was two-tone was $1399. It wasn't a generic pic either because it was specifically listed as two-tone. Anyways just found that odd.... Looks like I'm shooting for all black to match my cab. Go figure.... :-)

I have the Two-TONED Blond Black in the photo it was an extra 100.oo I don't care, it would sell as an other boutique for 2499. I like 1499 better..... There are about 50 Rx Jr out there.. So you're in a small but growing club with enthusiasm! ;D TONE,TONE TONE

Oh, it's not that I mind the $100 extra so much, it's not clearly stated BY THEM- I think doc's site says something about it now that I think about it. Ah who cares, two-tone one-tone, it ain't the kinda tone I care about anyway. It could be covered in burlap and I wouldn't care so long as I hear that Dr. Z TONE coming out of it!!! :-) I'm stoked in case you can't tell... It's a small club ya got over here (for now)......
