Had it about a week, played three gigs with it. I'm trying hard to like this amp, but the more I play it, the less I like it. It is WAY bright. I can't seem to tame it. I play a nocaster, R8, and a strat. I have a Z-best and a new convertible 1-12 cab. HELP!!!!

This may sound like a wacky suggestion, but if you want to tame the high end, attenuate it. Seriously. Buy a Weber Mini-Mass 25W, keep the master volume at MAX & use the Mass as your master volume. It'll tame your highs just fine, as well as give you ALL the power tube grind the JR can offer!
I play mine this way at home, I love it, and I have the JR's treble knob at MAX... that should tell you how attenuators cut high end (all of them do, not just the Webers.)
Also... are you using a brand new speaker? Or one that has been broken in? BIG difference...

WOW... If anything, mine is opposite. I get alot of bottom and good mids, and my treble setting is higher than the other two, I haven't had to put any tone settings even to 12:00 in a gig situation. I tested drove this through a Z-Best and it blew me away. I have a 2x12 Weber cab with Alnico speakers and I thought it was going to be bright, but it wasn't. It WAS brighter than I liked with my 2x12 Z cabinet with the Al-Blues, but not to the point where I couldn't adjust it nicely.
When you opened the box, did you take the back off and check if the tubes were all seated properly? Maybe try the EF-86 from your Route 66 as I've heard these can be touchy...
Or maybe swap power tubes just to check...

yeah this is really strange , odd, or i dont know what the word is,, i have my treble on all the way and the bass way back, thru a celestion gold,,, i cant imagine this amp overly bright without some sort of minor tweak,,, hey DOC,,, has to be some minor thing,, my jr is the bomb..... what are the spkrs you are playin thru?

I've got mine (UN-attenuated) with Bass at 2, mids at 6-7, Treble down at 2-3, volume at 6. So, I think there's plenty of treble there too.
ATTENUATED, the treble goes up to 10.
I'm playing a "hot" bridge pickup (Rio Grande Muy Grande), which has more mids than a std. tele bridge, thru a Eminence Red Fang (which is supposed to be Eminence's take on the Blue.)

That is strange. I'm with bluzman...my treble is set higher than anything else. Sounds like some thing is off. If you are playing through a new V30 it could pushyour sound into the mid/treb territory, but after a little break-in time it should mellow.
