Anybody here that is lucky enough to have a Rx Jr. play it humbuckers? I know with the Maz 18 it takes a little bit of tweaking to get a good humbucker sound, so with the Rx Jr, is it the same or is it more "adaptable" to a humbucker guitar?

I played it with my ES 335 Studio at a gig friday. IT'S AWESOME. 15"Weber Ferromax open back I was in the high input. I got some really nice Southern Rock and Blues sounds... and I also got some very cool clean funk sounds and Jazzy sounds. I don't think any of the tone controls topped 12:00 with what I was doing Friday night.
I intially tried it in my rehearsal studio in the low input with a LP, (see other early threads in this section) but I had to try something different as I'm having a ball with it!
It's still new to me but it's great. There is more simplicity than a Maz Jr. which does make it easier to dial in a guitar. Tone controls are are very intuitive... I mean if you want a little more or less treble or bass, it responds very well with minor adjustments. The Master Volume is nice too! Very round and smooth with humbuckers, but it can easily do the high pickin' sounds. A great bottom end with Teles and Humbuckers!
I haven't been able to spend as much time as I want to with it yet and am still experimenting with different axes, but this is a great versatile amp, and I don't think it's the honeymoon syndrome either!
It's way different than a Maz Jr. and different than the Carmen Ghia, but there is some overlap in the right places!

Yeah, how will this amp sound with my Grosh Set Neck? How different are the high and low inputs? Haven't had those since my Marshall back in the late 80's.

Wow, Grosh Set Neck, huh? You are one lucky guy! I really want to put this amp next to my Maz and do a comparison. BTW, can the Rx Jr. get the old school Marshall-esque sounds?

BTW, can the Rx Jr. get the old school Marshall-esque sounds? Man, you just keep askin' great questions. You're saving me alot of posts! Keep 'em comin'. I'm so torn between a 6545 and the Rxjr right now. I "should" be getting the Rxjr but that big badass rock tone the 6545 can put out, plus the headroom is tempting. However, I need a SMALL club amp, like the idea of not needing a bias and a small chimey amp is something I don't have with the 66.

I am with you as far as being torn between Z models. I am going to add a second Z amp at the end of the year, and I already have the small club amp thing covered with the Maz Jr. I am wondering if the RX Jr is going to be more of the same, or a different animal. I have never heard a Rx before, so I dont know how the Maz and the RX compare. That is why I am trying to find out what the differences are. BTW, how does that Grosh sound through your Route 66? (I think I recall you having one) I bet its heaven.......

I'm going to have to restring my LP and get back to you guys.
mattman, if you want a different sounding Z i'm not sure the Rx Jr is the way to go. They aren't the same, but if you really want a different sound I'd go with a 66, or 28. However, the two Jr would make a great pair together.

I'm planning on running my 66 and a RXjr together in stereo. Big and meaty + Sweet and chimey = Hope so anyway. Except that nasty demon on my left shoulder keeps saying "6545,6545" ;D

All I can say is I love the jr, but the 6545 I have no experience with. Totally different machines.

Thanks 95Strat, that is my concern.....that I would be getting more of the same. The 66 has been haunting me for the last year now, so I may very well go down that road (Route?) I still wanna hear the Mazerati GT and the Mini-Z head though before I make any decisions.

Yep, Doc made a beauty with the 66. I get the feeling I might be able to get the RXjr to rock with my Humbuckers. I need a chimey laid back sweet clean tone for some stuff as well. I reallly think this is the amp I should be getting even though the "rockier" 6545 and the GT are haunting me. Jr is still ahead though. I just think it's more practical at the moment and I can always rock out with the 66

I finally played my junior with a standard LP a couple of days ago live. I got several comments on my tone...especially the lead. I've never really messed with humbuckers much, but man you can get a nice meaty lead tone out of those suckers. Now I've got to find a good dual humbucker guitar because the RxJr works so well with them.
If you want high gain I suggest using pedals. You aren't going to get Taz's 66 sound with the Jr. I really love the clean side of the Rx, and even that slight hairy break up (close to the AC30 sound). However, if I want a Marshall sound I would suggest an OCD type drive pedal.
Anyway, the LP worked well through the Jr. even on the clean side. Just a fatter tone as expected. I've been borrowing my buddies LP for a while and never liked through '65 Fender RI. The scooped mids on that amp just don't match well with the Gibson sound IMO. The Jr is another story. Great crunch with a pedal and sweet juicey cleans.
I'll update as I get more experience with this baby.

Seriously great tunes and playing! That 66 sounds huge when it's not sounding pretty sweet already. Yow! It sound's like you've got something going on there.

Hey Guys, Jamergreg here. I have a 59 Burst RI and a Rx Jr W/ a convertable Z cab G12h. I'm useing an OCD and a King of Tone Ver4. The other night sitting in with a friends Band I was getting a GREAT Marshall type lead tone, a little over the top ,Thick, CREAMy overdrive that was better than the usaul great; I looked down at my pedal board and Both the OCD and the King of Tone were on at the same time...WOW !!!! This was by accedent. I plan on doing this from now on, on certain lead stuff..It's funny how you discover thngs....The RX JR is a KILLER amp.

I've got that amp cherried up with some nice valves, but it sounded great outta the box too. I love my 66 The RXES has a MEAN crunch into a 4-12 with greenies. I think the RX rock pretty hard so I imagine jr is no different. Nice thing about these "smaller" wattages is you might be able to get away with bigger speaker cabs, ie Z-Best or even 4-12 if you can be bothered. I'm sure it sounds great with 1-12 also.

It really depends on how much stage volume you need. The more speakers the more volume. I can say the 1x12 convertible and the RxJr are a great pairing for what I do. However, I think the Zbest is the greatest sounding cab I've played through. One can get very complex sounds of it. I would love to use one, but just can't justify 212's on stage.

My 2 cents...
I just got an RX Jr. and my PRS sounds like heaven through it. Crazy good tone.

R X Jr. and Humbuckers are GREAT together. Waiting to try (on order ) a ZBest With my amp and Guitars. My Convertible sounded real good w/ a G12H but the 2x12 will probably KiLL!! We will see.. There are a lot of hits on this web-site when there are only about 50 RX Jrs out there, causing quite a bit of news and excitement don't you say!!
