Can someone try (I know it's hard) to tell me the difference between the Rx Jr and the Maz Jr.?
I have a Maz Jr 2x12, but I'm considering selling it and going with a head....as I have two 1x12 cabinets to choose from. And 1x12 is usually enough for the gigs I play.
But I'm thinking if I am looking to purchase a head, why not consider a Rx Jr.?
I've heard the Rx is more Marshally than the Maz. Dang, I should have played the Rx Jr more at Z fest.
Also, keep in mind I have a Route 66. And that takes care of my Marshall cravings. So maybe I'm fine with the Maz?
From what little I know, I would think a Rx would be inbetween (tone wise) a Route 66 and Maz.

Well, I'm gonna try and post my thoughts on this as they are both GREAT amps...
and I'm probably gonna end up using both of em and just a/b between them.
AND I'm also gonna TRY in the next day or so use my Boss Br-600 to get some decent sound clips of the RX JR... maybe also of the Maz JR with the same speakers as a comparison.
emphasis on TRY... ;D
I'll post back here when/ if I can get a decent clip and also post my thoughts. They are different and I think some folks may still lean toward the Maz for specific reasons...
But alot of people are also gonna freak out when they hear/ play an RX JR.

i talked to dr z on the phone a couple minutes, thanked him for makin this rxes junior.. he said he gets tunnel vision,, all the amps start sounding the same,, thought maybe the maz 18 was too close to the rxes junior,, but, with the master volume and the boost and the low and hi input i have found it to be a different beast. i , like others have said am very happy with the low input and the master on low and diming the volume with the boost on,, roll back and it cleans up really nice.. its got only a pair of el84s and an ef86 and two 12ax7s and the rectifier that you have to replace,, the economy and versatility is what sold me on this amp, or i would have gotten another z-28...another very simple yet satisfying amp,,, the swiss army knife of z amps is the maz 38 senior,, but this one would have to come in second, as far as i am concerned..

I have both amps. I love the Maz 18 Jr. and it has been my GO TO amp for a long time now. To my ear these amps are VERY different. YES, there is some overlap on the clean end of things, there's the pair of EL84s but the Rx Jr. has more growl and fur WITHOUT using stomp boxes. I've spent time over the past week playing with the master low and the volume hi and vice versa with and without the footswitch. The Rx Jr. goes places that the Maz Jr. will need outboard gear to do. With the CUT on a Maz Jr., it can go places the Rx Jr. can't without external help. Keep in mind I'm making these comparisons with the amps loud. Somebody else said it here... both these amps together will be phenomenal!
For what I do with my originals band, the Rx Jr. is the right stuff as it has more growl that I like. For the jammy stuff I do with a house band, the Maz 18 Jr is the ticket!
Rx Jr. = Serrated Knife Maz 18 Jr. = Slicing Knife You need both in the kitchen!

and the rectifier that you have to replace, Why did you have to replace the rec? It's NOS.

Thanks for the clips Jason, IMO the Maz jr seems a little fuller or is that just on the clips it comes across that way?
