just curious what the stock tubes are... I know the PTs are GT, probably EL84S? And the rec is an NOS. What preamps did the Doc use?

just an add-on...
I assume this info, for the RxES, is the same for the JR? (with the exception of the rectifier, of course)?
The RX ES uses two 12AX7 tubes in position VI and V3.
In the center of the RX ES design is an EF-86 pentode gain stage in position V2.
The EF-86 has an increased bandwidth and double the output gain of a typical 12AX7.
The Overdose gain boost is connected to this stage, engaging this boost is likened to engaging the best OD pedal.
The output tubes are Groove Tube EL-84-S (Tesla variant), matched and balanced using a rating number of 6.
Finally, the RX ES uses a 5AR4 rectifier in it's power supply. Giving the over all amp a slight sag, the 5AR4 adds bloom and natural compression to each note.

i havent pulled the rectifier, but i am pretty sure it is not going to be NOS. prolly chinese, thats what came back from z with my ghia retubed,, also the v1 is a jj tesla, so my geuss is the other 12ax7 is a tesla also. the ef86 appears to be one of the new ones, not EH, but i havent pulled it yet. mine has 2 dampers on it.

actually, in another post in this forum, the Doc said the rec was NOS, I just opened my RxJR up, and mine doesn't have a brand on it. Just the tube spec- 5Y3GT.
The EF86 is an NOS Dario Miniwatt.
The "AX7's" are JJ ECC83S.
Power tubes are GT EL84S...JJ's. GT rating of '6".

That NOS Dario Miniwatt is a fine EF86. I've used those in several circuits and liked them all. Other fav EF86's include the Mullard Long Plates... But the Dario has some clarity that cuts through the EF86 tone... I like that...
Good luck with your choices!

I wouldn't mind getting a slightly darker EF86 (if there is such a thing) since I leave the Overdose on all the time, and the EF86 definitely seems to have a brightness to it.

Go for a Mullard. You can't go wrong with one those puppies...but you have to pay for them.

Just changed V1 out. Never been a huge fan of the JJ ECC83. Alot of people find them dark, but I find them brittle. Anyway, tried a
JJ ECC803 (better than the ECC83, but not much)
EH 12AX7. I've been liking this tube... has alot of mids (which the RxJR does not have). Sounded alot better than the stock JJ.
Tung-Sol (new) 12AX7. This is one of my current faves in other amps. Sounds GREAT in V1. A little better than the EH, but I'd be hard pressed to tell the difference if blindfolded. I've left this one in V1.
I've also tried some PI swapping, but in this amp it doesn't seem to matter. I have another amp where the PI swaps change the tone quite alot.
Which brings me to a question: this being a 2xEL84, it does NOT need a "matched" 12AX7 PI, right? It only uses one side of the PI?
