OK... so our blues band had practice last night (Shannon also had a "new to him" beat up 73 Les Paul gold top acquired from Curt's Musical emporium that felt and sounded tremendous, I think he's a Lester guy at heart) and we've got an outdoor gig Sat so I'm getting to use the RX JR in a band situation right off...
first the cabs used just playing around so far:
Well, I have played the RX through a 2x12 Z openback with 50 watt Weber CERAMIC Blue/ silvers which sounded very big and it didn't have a problem pushing two 50 watters at all... gave it alot of headroom with nice ceramic bite... same goes with the same cab loaded with 2 Weber ALNICO 50 watt Bluedogs... smoother and more compressed with a little less bite as you would think, but still pushed them fine with lots of headroom... clear and clean.
I also have one open back 2x12 Z cab loaded with an: Alnico 30 watt Bluedog and a Ceramic 30 watt C1230-55 (his version of the original G12-H30) that Dan Weller raved about a while back... this is a VERY nice pairing of speakers BTW.
AND I have the same pair of speakers (30 watt Alnico bluedog/ Cerramic C1230-55) now loaded in my Z-best 2x12 for an open or closed option with these speakers... the Z-best is flat out incredible with every amp I have using these speakers.
I used a 2x12 open back Z-cab with the Celestion Blues and it was stunning... EASILY pushed these speakers and they sounded like Blues are supposed to sound... very LOUD too.
this amp should be perfect in a 1x12 with a 50 watt Gold and you should get all the headroom you need.
I used my THD loaded with Alnico 50 watt weber blue/silvers and also with the same individual 50 watt speakers for a 1x12 reference and I COULD NOT get a bad sound (from the AMP anyways...lol) as with the others every cab sounded nice and this amp has NO PROBLEM pushing 50 watt 1X12 speakers and I like the 50 watt 2x12's myself for loud clean headroom.
Practice last night... I used the openback, 30 watt blue/C1230 combo and if your wondering whether this amp will hang with a loud drummer or not...
WE HAVE a heavy hitting LOUD drummer, I had the Volume on 6.5, master just under 1/2 way up, airbreak down 3 clicks, Overdose ON... and it was FAT FULL and PLENTY loud enough! Kicked in a Boost or a OD (BB or the Landgraff) and WhOOOHOO!!! Evenhad to roll the volume on the guitar back a few times just for fun...
Cool thing is I had PLENTY of room to get the volume WAY lower and Still sound full by using More Airbreak OR turning the Overdose OFF OR turning the Master volume down further... or a combination of these.
AND... I had TONS of more volume and headroom and drive if I needed it or choose to use it!!
This thing ROCKS and is extremely versatile volume wise, and here's the thing... all this WHILE retaining almost the exact sound you want at these different volume levels?! How COOL is THAT!!!
and Tas, you can use this amp for what you're needing and you shouldn't have to worry about running out of volume... might even need to use your airbreak and with your Z-best should be perfect for ya...
and this thing with a Z-BEST is sweeet... Z-best or openback sat...?? great problem.
I can't quite put my finger on the difference between the Maz JR (which I still love btw and I feel that the Maz JR/ SR "tonewise" are STILL the most versatile) and the RX JR...
but I think maybe the Maz JR has more "bite" (in a GOOD way) on the top end and Smoother sweet mids... and the RX JR has more "bite" (in a good way) in the mids and even the lows, with a smoother sweet top end... thats kinda what I'm feeling but I could be wrong, YMMV...
The RX JR is extremely BOLD for a smaller wattage amp,
and if your looking for "that sound" ala RX ES/ Stingray in a smaller wattage, thats more managable volume wise from needing lower volumes to much higher volumes in different/ various venues... this is "IT" baby. yea...
JR gets Straight A's ;D ;D ;D
