LeftyLang, I just love your 66. That gold panel and grillcloth look awesome. I can just see a Gretsch White Falcon sitting in front of that. How gorgeous would that be?

OK Gang, Here's my Route 66. It was my first Dr. Z. Mine originally came in a presentable, but worn, red cabinet with a Salt & Pepper grillcloth. But I swapped cabinets with my KT45 from the same year. This cabinet is in mint condition. I've updated the tubes to NOS. The EF-86, 12AX7, and GZ34 are all NOS Mullards. The power tubes are Groove Tube KT66HPs with a 5 rating. I use an Avatar 212 with it most of the time. That's loaded with a Celestion G12H30 and a Weber Alnico Silver Bell. I also really like the 66 though a Marshall 412 loaded with Greenbacks, but that gets LOUD. I always run the 66 though an attenuator. Anyway, here she is:

Is that the cab from Perry Roper's old KT-45 ??

Here is my beloved Route 66 with the brand spankin' new Avatar Vintage 1x12 cab I received yesterday from Mr. Fed Ex. Believe me, it sounds as good as it looks. Since I have a plethora of Celestion speakers (V30's, Greenies, G12H30, Modern Lead 70, etc) laying around, I chose a model previously unfamiliar to me: the Celestion Classic Lead 80. It's really warm, especially in the closed back Avatar cab. I think it sounds VERY much like a miniature Marshall 4x12 cab, especially with the Rt66 driving it. So far I'm liking the speaker a lot, but have a few I will probably swap in/out over the next couple weeks just for experimentation. This is my small/mid sized club rig from now on. For bigger rooms or outdoor gigs, I have a 2x12 open back w/Greenback clones that sounds amazing also. As fellow Z-devotee Joe Walsh penned ," I can't complain, but sometimes I still do- life's been good to me so far..."

Hi Lefty, Yes, I think so. According to the rumors at the time the KT was for sale, they said it had been Perry's. (Who is that? A Z-Bro?) Anyway, the KT had been listed 3 or 4 times within a month, and I think that scared some guys. But I emailed the seller and got a pretty good deal on it. The amp was in fantastic shape, and I really liked it a lot. However, it sounded a little too close to my Route 66 to my ears. Different, but definitely the same vibe. And since my 66 has a special place in my heart, the KT had to go. But not before I raided the cabinet. It really is in brand-new condition.

just re-fabric'd the cabs to match the 66... will see if time smotths out the little bit of bunching... if not, then I will pull them apart and fix 'em. the double stack with a gold on top and helltone30/british greenback on the bottom: the stereo stack with a Ghia - one airbrake and an airbrake lite to come:

So many beautiful and musical Route 66's and so little time. My new Route 66 cab made by a furniture cabinet maker. It seems to make the 66 sound better, if that is even possible!! Now...that's Cool!!
