I just got a used Maz Jr NR, here's my problems...the cut knob functions unless you turn it down to about 2 (scale 1-10), then it just makes a really bad and loud "buzzing" sound,...also there is an intermittent buzzing (like a bad ground) that suddenly comes and goes, this buzzing is not as bad as the cut knob problem, but it also seems to thin the sound. ANY IDEAS? Could any of this be as simple as tubes, or do I have a major/expensive problem? Other than these problems, the amp sounds great, but is not usable with this intermittent buzzing/humming. Any help appreciated! I posted this in the Maz Jr forum also, hope that is OK, just looking for some ideas/help/guidance...anyway if this isn't allowed, mods feel free to delete one of the posts.

That's a new symptom on me. Can't really say I have had that problem present itself.
Check the four bolts that hold the chassis , makem good and tight.
Check the CUT pot itself is it loose on the chassis .
If you can pull the chassis and make sure the two wires on the CUT pot are connected.
replace the Phase inverter V5 12AX7 LPS.
Thats a beginning anyway.

Swapped all tubes, fixed the cut knob problem (it was related to the 12AX7 next to the EL84s, but the amp is very noisy...not just usual tube amp noise, but VERY noisy...I guess I need a good amp tech. I'm bummed out to say the least. Someone has definitely been inside the chassis, the OT was missing a bolt, and some of the chassis bolts were quite loose. Thanks for the replies, maybe in a few days I can post about how great the Z is sounding!...now to find a great (but reasonable) amp guru in B'ham, AL!

I bet you could get it up to Ohio and back in fairly short order...

The gentleman I purchased the amp from has worked out an agreement for me to return the amp. I feel that he was unaware with the issues with the amp.
I have already ordered a brand new Maz Jr NR.

When the new Maz arrives, I'm sure your only issue will be with the guy who tried to sell you the first one. :-)

Nope...no issue with the seller, I feel confident he was unaware of the issues. At least now I will have a new set of tubes on hand when needed!

Karma to you geonew! Great to see that kind of attitude in this situation. Can be really easy to get angry at the seller. Congrats on the order of your new Z too.
