My 2x10 Z-28 has a terribly noisy tube rattle, and I can't seem to stop it. I've traced it to the ef86 tube. The tube has a spring loaded little metal clippy thing that holds the tube into the socket. Well, that metal clip - and the tube itself maybe? - rattles like nobody's business. I even went on ebay and bought a couple of those thick hi-tech tube damper bands, but they are not stopping the vibration and rattle...it currently has two of those on there. The tube itself has a black rubberlike sheath stuck on the end of it. The metal clip actually contacts that thing and not the glass directly. Presumably, that sheath is there to dampen the rattle from the clip. The only thing I can do to stop the rattle is to reach back there with my hand and hold the dang thing tight. Any suggestions? I'm at wits end.

Try tighten the metal clippy thing - should not nomally need very much pressure for doing it's thing.
Replace the EF86 tube for a fresh one.
