I have just joined the Dr Z fraternity with the purchase of a 38Maz senior head, I am currently trying out various cabinet configs and as I have two closed back 12" cabs, wondered if it would be best to wire them in series, giving 16 Ohm load, or in parallel giving 4 Ohm load. Does anyone know if it affects the output or tone of the amp, Whats best ? Thanks in anticipation. ian7981

I don't think theres one that is better necessarily, just personal preference. The one advantage to parallel is you'll still have a load on the amp if you blow a speaker.

Look in the Ask Ted Weber section - he specifically answers this question there.

To paraphrase from the Dave Hunter book on tube amps...(I'm going from memory, but I just read it within the past day or so....go figure)
Speakers wired in parallel sort of restrain each other and have a smoother breakup. Speakers wired in series have more of a raw and open sound.
Either of which is fine, depending on what you're looking for.
