Hi folks - I'm just about new here! I realize this is very personal of course, but can someone suggest one of Dr-Z:s amps for me. I promise I will not hold anyone responsible for my own misstakes. We play rythm&blues and soul music and a little bit of funk and some odd stuff. Check it out at: mbsb.psy.umu.se/. If you click the link "Go to the Demo-CD" and listen to Mustang Sally. Thats me playing the guitar fills on a Warmoth telecaster with Seymour Duncan mics. ( the neck mick was used for the licks ) The clean channel on my Fender Blues DeVille 2x12 was cranked up damn loud. I had to tighten up all the screws in the combo afterwards. Any suggestions will be gladly pondered! Cheers: Dixiechicken!

I would recommend a Carmen Ghia or a Maserati. I have the Ghia and think it would be great for a band like yours. I also recommended the Maserati because it is supposedly the most similar Z to a Carmen Ghia, but with twice the wattage.

I think there are quite a few Z amps that can do what you want. Some are quite powerful, while others are just right. I've been tinkering with blues on both my RXES and my SRZ-65 and they can both do it in spades. The Stingray can do it if you want to stay with the clean side. I'm betting the new Galaxie will be a blues monster. And all of the 18 - 22 watt amps the Doc makes can do a great job as evidenced by Mr. Buddy Whittington's playing with the Bluesbreakers. You want to hear blues tone, just check him out. Yikes... So ultimately it gets down to how much you want to spend, how loud you want to play, and what kind of blues tone you want to deliver.

Thanks for your replies! To "terlinguart" my acronym is inspired by my avatar a cat I used to have named Dixie. Musically the acronym is inpired by one of my favourite bands of all time - Little Feat. Those guys rock - and of course - with backing by the Tower of Power hornsection - even my band would sound good. Cheers: Dixiechicken

In Sweden where I live there was a semiprofessinal hobby-outfit called "Hotter the Hotdogs" "Varmare än Körv"! That was about 2 deacdes ago.
I have this friend of mine who knows literally thousands of tunes and who is a real good musician, He used to call on me and some other friends to go playing obscure places & pubs in nothern parts of Sweden.
Our not so professional outfit ( we never rehearsed b.t.w. - just played the tunes he knew ) was aptly named as a counterpoint "Colder than Beer" - "Kallare än Bärs". Anyway's we used to play "Willin" almost every gig.
I have also played Dixiechicken and Old Folks Boogie on occasions.

I am in a blues band that does a bit of soul etc. as well. I have Ghia and Z28 heads. While I like the Ghia a lot, the Z28 is by far my favorite Z amp so far. They are both great blues amps, but the front end of the Z28 just makes the amp.

I've never played the Z28, but I have a Ghia and play in the same type of band you described. I've got some great amps that are tone monsters, but I always play the Ghia. I run it into a 212 with an alnico Celestion Blue and an alnico Tone Tubby. Wow. a Z Best is next on my list. I don't know how it can get any better, but I played a Galaxie and was VERY intrigued. Really, it's hard to go wrong with any of them.

Thanks för all your input. After much thought and deliberation - it stood between the Stangray, Z-28 & Route66. I was leaning towards the Z-28 for a long time, but finally settled on a Route66 and a Dr-Z 2x10" cab. They are currently on order through the Norwegian dealer, so now I'm waiting. Got my Fender Blues DeVille up for sale. Cheers: Dixiechicken

Oh Canada... ;D Since the dollar has been getting better up here, all those Z's hurt a lot less... I think the Z 28 covers more ground if you're using pedals, and is a bit more versatile than the Ghia. I've owned both and loved both, but I just find the Z28 more useful for playing out, (except straight blues gigs, where you don't need much headroom, the ghia does that better).

Since the Z-28 and Route-66 have the same basic preamp and tonestack they should share the same versatility. I really like a lot about the Fender amps ( have had my current amp some eight years or so ) but thought maybe it was time to try a little different sound.

Every once in a while they do something rather unexpected - a thing I can appreciate. Like the song "Gringo" on the "Hoy-Hoy" album.
One of their best tunes, but perhaps not very typical.
Feats dont fail me now: Dixiechicken
