OK guys thanks for the input. It seems that circa 05 and 06 Sovtek 5AR4's have very short life spans. It is sad as I have used Sovtek 5AR4's for nearly 17 years without a problem and would routinely get 6 or 7 if not more years of use out of them. I spoke to Otto at Sovtek/New Sensor and reports no increase in failures of that tube he wasn't convincing to me as I see many failures.
I have switched to JJ 5AR4's since the begining of the year and ( fingers crossed ) haven't had any rectifier failures to date with them.
It's funny to because most reprorted failures are on MAZ JR's, which has a low input capacitance 40 uF well under max rateing, and total currant draw of the Jr is under 100 mA and true 5AR4's are rated at 250mA max.

Good luck with the tube search Doc. I really appreciate the fact that you have taken time to consult with your customers on this issue in order to deliver the best amp you possibly can. How many other amp companies would do that. Luckily, I haven't experienced one of these problems, but it is very comforting to know that the man behind the amps is digging into this type of issue. Thanks Doc!

1 ) Have you blown a HT fuse ? I blew both fuses. 2 ) Was the rectifier the the cause ? Yes. Watched it spark before new fuses blew. 3 ) What model Z was it ? Maz Sr. Reverb Head 4 ) Circa of amp or serial number ? Q - 2006 model 5 ) Type of rectifier and date code at bottom of tube ? Sovtek
Replaced the rectifier with an OS (Old Stock) GE GZ34 - the original from my '64 Tremolux which my amp tech said was still good. Maz sounds like new amp now. And, most importantly, it works!
This thread has proven invaluable. Thanks, all.

1-Yes both fuses blew (3 amp and 1/2 amp)- first there was no sound but amp was on. Then no power at all. 2-Yes 3- Mazerati Combo 4-P-9134 5-Sovtek I think

Sorry Purpletele I just saw this question from you. Yes my amp woes at that time were due to a bad rectifier tube which has been replaced and the amp has been on point since then
