I like 5V4's as they are in between the dynamic and higher powered 5AR4 and the spongy 5U4. I would use them more but they are hard to find these day's and no one makes a GOOD replacement. I've just been given a Sovtek 5V4 for my Maz Jr. no charge. I mainly play dirty and I was curious to try the rectifier swap, but your comment about no one making a good replacement gives me a cause to pause. what do you mean by that? Do you mean a new tube like my Sovtek just has a short shelf life? or it probably will not work like a real NOS 5V4? or that it could be dangerous to use for whatever reason?
