I've just been reading about the new JJ KT77's and there is info on them being direct replacements for EL-34 and KT66 amps. So I'm wondering if these are OK in the Route 66 with a rebias of course and also how it would effect the tone. Thanks.

Tas ,Doug sent me a match pair to put in a Bad Cat I have . I like them better than the Ruby 34's. seem tighter and maybe little more headroom

Thanks Dave, I might try a quad set into my ol' rack and see how they sound. Still wondering whether they will work in the 66 and what the outcome would be. I think my valves are wearing down as I have had to turn up more than usual and I don't seem to have the clean headroom. Maybe the bias has slipped so I'll check that first. The lack of techs down here is a pain!

Looks like nobody knows too much about these yet.
I know the guy who is probably the best rock player in the country, he just received an amp designed with this tube in it and he says the amp is "devastating".

Is that the Ulbrick amp?

I checked that out the other day. Looks nice, but too many knobs! lol Actually I was wondering where the KT77 were going to come from, since I heard they are rare (NOS, at least). I wonder how they would sound in a KT45 or the SRZ65.

Interesting amp, it has a double master volume which I would guess is to get the volume down for smaller clubs. The Ulbricks I have heard so far are absolutely outstanding. Funny thing is, my friends all want the 120 watts and I'm saving for 18! ;D
I know a lot of people who are using them as direct replacements for their EL34's. A little more girth and headroom is the general concensus but I'm sure there are the usual variables to contend with. They might be worth a try in the KT45.

It's been a while so I'm bumping this to see if anyone has had any experience with these yet.

I'm surprised the KT77s would have more headroom than the E34LS, since the latter is a 30 watt tube.

I'm surprised the KT77s would have more headroom than the E34LS, since the latter is a 30 watt tube. The construction of a beam pentode as in the KT77 and the higher vacuum makes the tube just sound bigger and it is a more substantial design much like the difference between a real USA 6CA7 and EL-34.

The KT77 is an EL34 type NOT a 6L6 type. Using a KT77 in a Route 66 is a shortcut to blown screen resistors.

Thanks Myles, don't worry, nothing is gonna replace my GEC's in the Rt 66 but I was contemplating throwing the KT77's in my rack, but I've managed to sell most of it so the point is mute. They sound awefully good in the Ulbrick amps though. Love to hear them in a SRZ or 6545.
