Hello there!!
I thought I would ask this question:
I have a Maz Jr 18, with 2x10 Z speakers. My question is, which Z should I look at next.
I get a pretty good chimey tone out of this baby and I love it even more than my old trusty AC15 I still use for rehearsal.
I just want a tonally different amp. Outside of Dr. Z's, Since I live in Minneapolis, I was looking at the Savage Glas 30.
Any thoughts?? Most of my music is 90's indie, but I also love Chris Isaak, Surf music, Social Distortion and the occaisonal George Strait.
I was leaning towards the RX Es or the Route 66. Would most likely go Head + Zbest cab. That way I can a/b my Maz Jr and still have the Jr plugged into the Z best for a wonderful wall of sound!!
Thanks for the consideration. Mango

Well come on Doc. Get it out there! Please keep it cathode bias. I love that spongey feel with a 6L6.

I vote for keeping it fixed bias. I want a Dr. Z take on the Fender blackface circuit so I can hook it up to a 15" jbl and do the SRV thang. ;D

I'd start to be snob and get a Red Z-28 or Red Route 66. (Just because I don't have them yet) but absatively and posolutely get a Z-Best Cabinet. I don't know why I put that one off for so long. From there, research the web site and get the Dr. Z amp you think will suit you best. With the bigger power I'd go head/cab. Good luck on deciding!

Wow, the two you listed are great amps (RXES and RT66). This is the greatest conundrum in Z-land, because all the amps are great for what they do. So you kind of have to move toward one that does what you're trying to do. Or if you're like me, you just buy them all...

If the wife would OK it, I would buy em all!!! Any zero interest financing until ....
Just kidding.
I just feel honored the Good Dr. had some input for me!!!!
Thanks!!
PS I just ROCKED it at my buddies bar tonight with my Jr. I got the "Are you sure 18 watts is enough" comment....and then....
Just one of those nights where it was "dialed in"
;D

Aha!!! Found it!!! Nevermind fellas!!! I used to have the Fender Supersonic, so I am a bit wary of the 6L6, but, will ahve ti give it a whirl. Otherwise, either a Z-28 or a Route 66. Yippie!!!!!

I used to have the Fender Supersonic, so I am a bit wary of the 6L6, I don't think the EZG50 will have the slightest bit in common with the Supersonic so don't let that cloud your judgement. I've heard alot of 6l6 amps that sound nothing alike.

Thanks for the insight.
I will have to go plug into a few Z's at my local dealer and see what lights my fancy. I do want a Z that is much cleaner too!!

Oh gosh, my eyes were glancing over the topics and I thought I read Mexi Z? Instead of "Next Z"... I was hoping for sure that the ole Doc doesn't go in on that NAFTA thing and have amps made in Mexico...
But then I took another look at the post topic and breathed a sigh of relief.

A Fender Super Sonic is not a good example of a 6L6 amp so don't let that influence your feelings about 6L6 amps.

A Fender Super Sonic is not a good example of a 6L6 amp so don't let that influence your feelings about 6L6 amps. That amp barely qualifies as a tube amp IMO

For Chris Issak and surf music - Z-28 for tonally different - Route 66 for a Z that is cleaner - KT-45
I haven't heard the EZG-50. But it's a Z, so no worries. About the 6L6 tube - In Doc We Trust. He'll make it work. He always does.
