As my topic suggets, I have a ghia and think it really sounds great, but I need something much louder to play live with...... is the breakup of the 88 similar?
I really like the Ghia around 2 or 3 o'clock and expect that I'd have to have the 88 pretty cranked on the volume to be loud enough for live performances, but at the same time I wouldn't want it to be too distorted at that level.
I guess perhaps my real question is: does the breakup happen at similar places on the volume dial with both amps?
thanks!

Yeow! a Delta 88? That's a LOUD amp. I mean REALLY loud. I mean you'll be at ear splitting volume in order to get breakup.
If you want a loud Ghia, get a Mazarati. It was originally built for someone who wanted a "high powered Ghia". The Dr. suspended production of them, so cruise Ebay for one.

I second the Mazarati suggestion.

Thanks for the replies, maybe I should have clarified a little more. I currently play out of two 100 Watt amps (Ampeg V4B and Marshall JCM800) that I would be looking to replace one of with this head in a loud rock band. Looking for a similar output of volume. You might think this sounds like insane volume, you might be right, but, that's where I'm coming from.
That said........ my question still stands as I don't think a Mazerati would be loud enough.... thoughts?

HOLY CRAP! You play through two 100 watt amps? AT THE SAME TIME??? Full volume on each? Man, I'm reaching for my ear plugs just READING this. If you don't have those two amps turned up all the way (master volume), then it's a whole new ballgame.
Don't get me wrong, a Mazarati is a loud amp. There's one for sale on ebay right now. You can also increase the volume of the Mazarati by using more speakers, such as a 4x12.
But with that said, a Delta 88 would also sound nice. Probably not like a Ghia, but closer than a JCM800.
You've got to reply...you can't possibly have the master volumes on each amp up high. Can you?
Where do you rehearse? Where do you gig with that kind of volume? Is it a metal band?

Don't smite me for this but be sure and wear proper ear protection. I'm not hassling you, I'm only interested in your wellbeing. If everyone is protected properly and you can gig at that volume then ROCK ON! A V4 is one loud mutha so you're generating some serious decibels. It's probably louder than a Delta 88, maybe significantly so.

hey guys, no worries, of course i'm using ear plugs! i'm not crazy..... or at least, not that crazy. the band i play in isn't metal, but more punk/hardcore, but yes i have the master volume high on my jcm800 (preamp low though), and the v4b has no master and i usually play between 5-7 depending on how much gain i want.... the funny thing is that so many more bands use much more these days. luckily my buddy just bought a delta 88 so i can check that out in my set up and see if it works. if youre really curious about the music i play, heres a youtube live video, which shows the guitars dont drown everything out.: or you can check out mp3s at: chernobylmedia.com/ampere/?p=releases
