Hey Myles, what do you think of pairing a Eminence Red Fang with a Z28 head?
What is your personal favourite (1x12) in 28' for a good all round rock n roll sound.
1.Celestion ? 2.Weber? 3'Eminence?
Overall personal favourite?
Thanks for your time.

Personally I'm all nuts about my Weber Blue Dog (alnico, 30W, 8Ohm)

I would imagine a Weber blue dog or Celestion Greenback would be killer with the Z-28.

I gigged a Z28 with a Celestion Vintage 30 for 2 years, and got plenty of compliments on tone. Used it in a closed back cabinet. My speaker of choice now is a Weber 50w alnico Blue dog, sure it would be a good match with the 28.

My Z-28 sports a war torn V-30, sound purdy good I have a Blue Dawg Ceramic 30 watt OTW and am lookin forward to that. I plan to buy a Jensen P-12-R per Myles suggestion (97.4Db) to cut volume and allow me to crank the '28. Also of interest are Eminance, Tx Heat and Red, white, blues Have ya'll noticed the 28 is so/so if the controls are < noon? BUT.when you get all 3 above noon it is quite possibly "THE" best amp around (san 'Ray) hence my need to cut output and stay in the sweet spot, that V-30 makes some noyZ boyZ

Then kick in the RC... WOW WOW!

Hmmm, maybe a 20 watt Celestion "Heritage" Greenback G12m might do the trick then. Just want to keep me bottom end tight and focused and not too mushy though?

can the 20W handle the output of the Z28? You might be asking for a new speaker.....
Curt....with my humbucker guitar I actually do occasionally run the tones < 12:00 for clean clean stuff....but yeah, that's really rare.

Hi Groovergeorge, you would probably want to go with the Celestion Heritage G12H greenback instead of the G12M. It would be 30 watts opposed to 20 watts and give you a better bottom end. TerryG is right that the 20watt G12M would not handle the output of the Z-28 very well. A 25 watt speaker at minimum is what you need, I would say 30 watts or higher for a better bass response.

Ok,how about an Eminence "RED FANG", I heard they are a great speaker,30 watts and have a great alnico chime and break up nicely?
Cheaper too!

Yeh I got the Z' gas real bad.......pretty keen on the Ghia/Z28 setup, seems to work great for most of the guitarists on this forum so I'm willing to bet that it will be cool for me too. I'm just putting the feelers out to see which 12' speaker would suit the 28' the most. I have thought about the Route 66, but of the sound bytes I have heard, it tones sound more like an old Tweed bassman crossed with a Marshall JTM 45. Getting those sustaining Gary Moore,"Still got the Blues" type tones out of it might require too much volume and the addition of a pedal or two, so I thought I'd go with a Z 28. With the Z 28' I can crank it at reasonable volumes and wail away or kick back and get a little Fender out of as it is powered by a pair of 6v6's. The KT45 is another amp that I absolutley love the sound of, but I couldn't ever see myself using it as I don't ever play to 300 people
Don't be too surprised If I have some new toy by St Patrick's day. ;D

Hey tele62 are you sure Myles recommended the Jensen P12R 25 watter, as the sensitivity on the ones I have found for sale seem to have a 93.6 db rating? The P12n seemes to have a higher wattage (50watts) and a 98.4 db rating?
Just wanting to make sure before I go purchasing anything, that's all.

"KEEP ON ROCKIN IN THE FREE WORLD" Well, that's what i wrote down !!! sure, no. Try the search function, it was actually on the Ghia thread. I take it you do not as of yet own a Z/28? You'll be amazed @ 22 watts, Myles also stated on here somewhere that he had tesed the 28's output and it was more like 35 watts, they are loud !!!! I am in the hunt for a less effeicnt speaker, lower Db to allow me to run the amp hotter 'cause a Z/28 run flat out just KILLS !!!! but too loud for my gigs.

Yeh I haven't bought one yet Tele62. I am in the market for one as I keen to do the Ghia/28' thing so I am at odds as to which speaker to match with it......so many possibilities out there!
I already have a 25 watt jensen P12R with a 93.6 db rating that is lying around that needs to have the coil rewound. Im just worried that if i use that one I might blow the thing if I match it with the Z28'. Maybe a Weber blue dog 30 watt might do the trick. its a dark amp apparently so I think ceramic magnet could be the go...................let me know how your goes when it arrives.
karma for your help man!

My Z28 came with a Greenback...sounds pretty good to me I'd like to try a Private Jack in the future...its supposed to be similar to the Greenback but more efficient/louder. Im primarily a country player and for the volumes we play at, I sometimes wish my clean tones were a little cleaner...I think the more efficient speaker might help.

A P-12R won't last long in a Z-28, if you crank it.

Well I decided to go with an Eminence Red Fang (alnico). I'll stick it in a single open back cab and all I need now is a Z28' to try it with.
Hmmmm can't wait for one of those!
Won't be long and I will be joining the illustrious Ghia/Z28 club. I had to sell my Gibson Les Paul special TV to do it ,great sounding guitar by the way(those P90's just rocked) but I always prefer the earlier single cut model with a fat-clubby neck anyway. I'll get one down the track sometime!
If anyone out there wants to sell there Z28' head, put it up on Ebay with a "Buy it Now" and consider it sold.

I've always liked the Weber 12's. The Silver Bell is an amazing speaker.

The Greens sound really good with one, I've moved to the Scumback SA1275HP for my 1x12 needs. It's a higher wattage H magnet, similar to a G1265 I think...but it sounds fantastic.

For smaller gigs I use a Eminence Red, White & Blues....very Jensen like tone, but louder and not harsh at all!! For larger gigs I use the Z 4x10 that is the best 4x10 I have ever heard & sometimes I hook them both up for a really huge tone.
Let us know about the Red Fang...I am very curious...it is suppose to be a very loud speaker!!

I like the Eminence 121 Legend, i use it in a Earcandy soverign 1-12 cab. It's closed back and front ported. It's a core speaker in the eminence line, meaning numerous others are variations of that speaker. It is what i would best describe as "very honest". It doesnt accentuate or attenuate any particular frequencies. Just nice full bottom, very natural mids, and open chimey highs. It does have pretty good headroom as well, not as much as a tonker/s-thang tho, but when driven hard it will break up nicely, and get you a bit of the celestion harmonic haze and nice crunch. Great sustain. I love it with my Z-28 and my RT.66! Ahhh... variety, the spice of life
