I recently bought a Z 1X12 cab to use on smaller gigs. It came w/ a G12H-30 and the label at the jack on the cab reads 8 ohms. My Z Best 2X12( w/ RI Greenbacks) has 16 ohms at the jack. I had a friend over yesterday and we were a/b'ing the two cabs and testing pedals using my four year old Rt. 66. This amp has always been reliable and sounds great ( although it seems a bit brighter/harsher w/ the 1X12 cab). In comparing the two cabs, I was just unplugging the speaker cable quickly ( amp and standby both remained on ) making sure to use the 8 ohm output for the 1X12 and 16 ohm output for the 2X12. My friend left after a bit and I was playing through the 1X12 when it seemed to sound kind of harsh. I then observed that somehow at some point I had left the speaker cable connected to the 16 ohm output on the amp. I reconnected from 16 ohm amp output to the 2X12 and the sound improved a bit but still sounded a bit harsh. I don't know if it was just ear fatigue at this point ( 3 hrs. later ) OR if i have affected the amp by having the 16 ohm output connected to the 8 ohm 1X12 cab. Can I screw my amp up by doing this or by disconnecting speaker cable quickly to switch between the two cabs?? I have never replaced any tubes in this 66. It has the GT66 ( 6 rating? ) original tubes in it as well as the others being stock originals. I bought the amp brand new in May of ' 02. I'm NOT an amp tech but was wondering if now might be the time for a "physical examination" . I live in southern California so driving into LA area is not a problem. I'm a little concerned about shipping my beloved out to the good Doctor even though thats probably the most intelligent thing to do. I'm looking for a bit of guidance and info here. All help is very much appreciated. Thanks, t
