Im in the market for a Dr. Z amp. I love Brad Paisley's tone and this is what turned me on to them. The thing is that i haven't tried any out. I am on a budget and am going to be trading in my mesa boogie dual rectifier half stack with some cash for a Dr. Z of some sort. Not sure how much i will get for my half stack, but
what models will get me close to Brad's tone on TWW specifically songs like "Time Well Wasted" and "Shes Everything?"What size is the best for at home and playing live 2x10, 2x12, etc? I don't just play country so i need an amp that is versatile i've heard that the rxes and rxjr are very versatile for more styles than jsut country? thanks edwin song

I think one of the Prescription amps with a Celestion Alnico Blue or Gold will give you a LOAD of possibilities, not the least of which is some of BP's tones. I have the RXES here, and it is quite versatile if you are willing to Airbrake it. No master volume on that amp, and you need the volume control above noon to get to the real singing overdrive tones. By that point it is seriously loud. But if you're not needing a whole 45 watts, you should look at the RXJr. it's got the same tones, but with a 15 watt power amp, AND a master volume control. That's a very versatile combination. Of course the other amp that BP uses is the Stang Ray. For the flexibility aspect of your requirements, I wouldn't recommend the Stang Ray simply because it's a very clean amp and that's that. That isn't to say it wouldn't work, you would just need to use pedals to get to the OD tones. I have clips of my Stingray and my RXES on my gear page at www.gear.strayca.com/ - there's one clip where I compare the Stingray and the RXES, so you can get a feel for the RXES's clean tones from that. I also have a number of RXES overdriven clips there. Hope it helps!
