http://instagram.com/p/CaGOuBWJ98s Watch this space! I was supremely fortunate to win the Greenville P90 Pleasure Garden pickups over Christmas (thanks fellas!). So I want to share the build with y’all (primarily for comedic effect as you watch me struggle and get out of my comfort zone). Again, thank you to Todd at Greenville Pickups for sponsoring the give away!

Good luck on your build. I almost put my name in the hat for those so I could try them in my Collings 360 but I'm glad they went to someone with a real use for them rather than me using them as an experiment and having one set or the other sitting around in my parts box.

Thanks Ridgeback!
As an update; I have a dear friend who is a retired luthier and he told me during one of my “build counseling” sessions to send me the parts and he will work his magic. He has built 4 of my instruments and they have all been stellar. He has had instruments shown in art galleries and has done incredible work that if I were to guess, most of you have seen or at least heard of.
But more than that, like I said, he is a dear friend (and a killer fusion guitarist).
Check him out on Bandcamp Scot Jon Schwestka. His continuum album (his album name predates Mayer by at least 15 years) is amazing!

That's pretty cool & a nice legacy. The guitar looks great. Obviously, per my Avatar, I'm a little partial to the look of P90s. But, they do look Great on a guitar! Always love seeing a guitar on TV and realizing there's some more P90s. Enjoy!

Looks really nice! Now, I just need to know how it sounds!!! You and me both!! I am chomping at the bit. My buddy says the middle position is very nice and is Spanky. And he says the bridge position has a nice midrange honk. He hasn’t said anything about the neck position. I think he is tormenting me. (Smile). I will post some videos, both solo and in a combo setting, at some point to some insight into how this little build sounds.

Wow ! Princess Asphyxia is a stunner. Can't wait to hear how she sounds.
Did you get the body and neck from Warmoth, or another supplier? I did a parts-tele with a Warmoth neck, and was very happy with the outcome, but I'm always looking for other suppliers.
Congratulations on a great build.

I did a parts-tele with a Warmoth neck, and was very happy with the outcome, but I'm always looking for other suppliers. Congratulations on a great build. We got the neck from Warmoth. It is a maple neck with an ebony fretboard and stainless frets. My friend built me another guitar over the summer that was all Warmoth save for pickups and a few incidentals. I like my current Warmoth build. And yes, it is absolutely amazing. I’ve never played a fender custom shop but with the amount of customization you can do with Warmoth it is very much like getting your own signature guitar (just without the prototyping and residual mail box money).

Warmoth is great stuff! The necks need a little work to get them exactly the way I like them. They are not 100% "finished" out of the box in my opinion. After a little work, they are perfect for me.

I agree, Warmoth necks aren't 100% finished when you get them, but darn near. I got a roasted maple, vintage modern neck with S.S. 6115 frets from them when I built my parts-tele a couple years ago. One of the frets was a couple thousandths high, so I did a light level, crown & polish job on the neck. I also sanded the headstock a little and rolled the edge of the fret board (not the frets) a little. It was pretty square from the factory. Then I rubbed it with a couple coats of boiled linseed oil. Came out great. I got great customer service from Warmoth also, but this was before covid hit. I wonder if their lead times are somewhat back to normal. I think my neck took about 5 weeks to get to me. I'd Love to build a guitar with P90's. Congrats. She's a beauty.

The Princess has arrived.
Here is a quick and dirty look at the pickups. I’m going straight into a DrZ Cure and recording on an iPhone with a Sony MOTIV mic. I just noodle my way through the pickups on both the normal and booster modes of the amp.
Boy, on the booster mode, these pickups scream! I will do a video in a band setting in a couple of weeks to show how the pickups sit in a combo setting.
So with out further adieu, here is Princess Asphyxia with her Pleasure Garden pickups.
Enjoy the clams.

Sounds really nice! Those P90s sound like they have more top end and less mid push than what I'm used to hearing. I really like um!

Oh yeah, I had a moment of “wow!” when I kicked on the boost and had the bridge pickup on. It really had a great snarl and really felt like a really pissed off tele. But even played cleanly they have a great feel and sound.

Mustangs are pretty well known for the brightness and spanky tone so the pickups are helping with that. These pickups with the way they are wound do have a more open sound to them and are a lot less muddy sounding than others. We have these in a Double Cut Jr and a couple of SG's around the house and they sound different in each body style guitar but the openness of the tone, the smoother top end and harmonics all come though in all of the guitars. These sounded really great in RussellB's Electrojet we got to play with earlier. I loved the "I'm trying not to smile face" in several portions of the video!! Joshua and watched it together and wished we had recorded us watching it because we were smiling too!

http://instagram.com/p/CfSPaXsu2kg My Greenville P90 Mustang build got a new Callaham bridge. The Mexico made Fender stop tail bridge was just not doing it for me. I did not buy the hype but this bridge is really good. I can feel the body vibrate against me now and the guitar just sings, twangs, and sounds like a great big piano. I just strum a G chord and sit there grinning like a pig in slop. I have not been gigging this guitar b/c that bridge just made it feel so much like a one trick pony. I may need another guitar stand to accommodate the addition to the arsenal. So good!

Update on Princess Asphyxia.
She has quickly become my #1 gig guitar.
A fun trick she has; we added Zombie to the set and at end instead of the recorded outro I make myself a nuisance by stacking my JHS Unicorn onto the fuzz and let the guitar sympathetically vibrate. The pickups are so musical and fun. I can’t explain with physics what they are doing but it is really cool. The pitch changes over time and the sustain into feedback is just amazing.
I tried the same trick with my Lollar low wind Imperial strat style build last night and the results were less than satisfying.
In other news, the guitar and pickups handle the wide range of tunes we play to great effect. We run the gamut from Texas Country, Psychobilly Country, Nashville Country, 90’s rock, 70’s yacht rock, and dance music. The only reason I change guitars is if I need a tremolo or if the music needs a strat type sound. I play this guitar 3 sets a night and the pickups sound so great!
But the fuzz sound and the feedback and sympathetic noise thing are my favorite unique noises the pickups make. Well done, Greenville Pickups! Well done!
