Howdy folks,
I've had my Z-Lux for a few months and generally love it. It does pretty much exactly what it's advertised to do.
I do have one concern, though: while the gain is generally sweet and classy on single notes when I crank the (pre-amp) volume, I have noticed a fair amount of "sizzle" in the bass register when notes ring out, especially when I play standard power chords. It's just a little like (but not quite like) a broken speaker or cheap fuzz sound, and not really noticeable on the attack.
Fellow Z owners/experts, does this sound like a characteristic of the Z-Lux "drive"? (I suppose on one level it could be considered funky/raw, like a cranked Blackface can be.) There's nothing in the signal chain except a (new) cable, and it occurs with all my guitars. When the amp is clean, the bass is tight and full...no sizzle.
Many thanks in advance for your thoughts!

Are you talking about as the notes and chords decay into silence?

Yes, exactly.

In the pedal world this usually means the transistors or whatever you’re overdriving to create distortion are biased too cold. For tubes it’s a little different. I would suggest subbing in or trying other preamp tubes in the first position, which is V1, to see if that fixes it. Also, do you notice it with the eq bypass engaged with the dial on the pedal cranked?

I do notice it with the eq bypass engaged and the dial cranked.
Thank you for your responses and thoughts. I will try subbing out a V1 tube to see if that fixes it.
