I'm looking for suggestions for production 6V6s. I don't really want to go down the NOS rabbit hole. Too much money. When I'm not using my Maz Jr, I use a home-brew 5E3. I had some Genalex Gold Lions which sounded great, but lately I hear a weird low rumble on some notes telling me its time to think about some new power tubes.

The JJ's are great and can handle a lot of power. The Tung Sol's are also very good. Not as rugged as the JJ's but to me they sound better.

I have had nothing but good luck with those. I have used them in several different amps. My JAZ. My Princeton Reverb. A 5E3 clone I use to own. They sound good and I have never had one fail or go microphonic.

Another JJ fan here. They're cranking out some good sounding and rugged tubes.

Yes, the JJ's are stout and Doc does use them; but a lot of folks say they "don't sound like a true 6V6."
Mike @ KCANOS has said that the Tung Sol's are the best current-production 6V6's out there right now. I have no reason to disagree, because that's what I've been using and am very happy.

I use the JJ double mica ones in my Z28. The Tung Sols and Gold Lions DO sound good, but dont last. I also really like the TADs, and use them in my Valvetrain Saratoga. They've been absolutely reliable. So, JJs or TADs.

JJ. Eurotubes.com
Doc recommends moderate power tubes for his amps.

In your 5E3 the Tung-Sols should work fine. I have had them in a Princeton Reverb and was pleased. I prefer the JJ's in amps that run power tubes hotter like a Deluxe Reverb. It was the ONLY tube that worked well in my JAZ.

It was the ONLY tube that worked well in my JAZ. A good point, and there is probably some good reason behind this too. I know that I've looked up tube specs before, and IIRC the Tung-Sol's had a specified max dissipation of 12 W each, whereas the JJ's, E-H's, and TAD's all seemed to be rated for 14 W dissipation. Just food for thought.

I have used all of these and the Shuguang ones. I am probably happiest with the TAD ones in some Swart amps. ABCing the rest in a THD Flexi, I liked the Shuguang ones most, the TS second and the JJs third.
This all said, the JJs, TADs and TSs seem rugged- the Shuguang ones seem less so. Also, the good doc optimizes circuits in the Z amps to sound great with how he ships them.

I'm a little late to the discussion, and since nobody has mentioned them, I'll add Mesa. I've had great luck with them in not only Mesa's but in my Rivera-era Fender Champ II. I do also agree with the many thumbs up for JJ. I can't recall a JJ power tube failing on me.
