Anyone have any experience with this combo? Its widely known that the Z28 "takes OD pedals extremely well." And I've heard time and time again that the KoT is "THE" OD pedal and that it sounds awesome in front of almost any amp. Common sense dictates this would be a killer matchup.
So, any of you have experience using these two? I've been on the waiting list for 26 months, probably have another 7 to go(which is ridiculous), and I'm going to buy one. Itll need to kick my Z Drive off the board, and I have my doubts that it can. If it doesnt, I'll just flip it for a nice profit.

I’m on the list as well, July 2017 I believe. He’s currently shipping for March 2017. Hoping it pairs well with the z28. What options and color are you going with?

Probably one side high gain, the other regular gain. 2 Top jacks, internal dip switches, purple. Pretty standard. I’m on the list as well, July 2017 I believe. He’s currently shipping for March 2017. Hoping it pairs well with the z28. What options and color are you going with?

I’ve had a KoT for a long time. I owned a Z28 for a short time during that time. They went together just fine. Frankly, I’ve yet to hear an amp that didn’t sound good with the KoT.

I generally like the Z28 best straight in and cranked up a bit. I have a TU3 tuner in line here. I have a KoT but usually just use it in difficult audio environments, although it works well in that situation. I also have a borrowed ZVerb on this clip, which was nice to have and sounds great but it is an extra piece to carry on the road and I just don't have room for it.

GREAT stuff BW, thanks! Were you using the KoT in that clip, or just the amp(knob settings)?

No KoT, just a Boss tuner and the Zverb.

Man, I miss my Z28, but I was never able to use it at the volume needed to get it cooking. It did take pedal great though!

I've used a KoT with a Z-28, and it does sound great--though, as you say, the 28 sounds great with pretty much any decent OD pedal, and/or straight in. I personally find the hype around the KoT to be wildly overblown (I've owned four of them at this point, and sold them off every time). The KoT may have been the bees knees 20 years ago when it was first introduced, but these days there are lots of great low/medium gain pedals out there for less money and without the ridiculous two-year waitlist. Maybe get yourself a Barber Gain Changer--it's one of several available pedals that's virtually identical to the KoT in tone but with more gain on tap and more bottom end. If you're in the market for a dual pedal, I like Jetter stuff a lot for soft-clipping, medium gain dual ODs.

Master volume etc. Doc has been super busy putting out a lot of new models as of late but....the loyal z28 fans are still patiently waiting 😇

Sweet playing Bud!
Buddy and Dr Z are the reason I no longer need/use pedals...

I love my KoT and my Z28. The KoT is the longest lasting pedal on my board. If you’re on the hunt for “the drive,” you can’t go wrong with the KoT. It’s going to sound great with any amp. Having gone through a number of ODs, I don’t feel like any of them have been magical, but I prefer amp drive over pedals. With that said, if you have your amp set clean and rarely get to really push it, the KoT is the answer. It’s just an all around great tool to have and well worth the money IMO.
