I searched the threads to see if there's an existing one but couldn't find one. I bought a 2005 Maz 18 recently and love the amp but the reverb could use some improvement. I don't hear the effect except at the very end of a phrase and then it sounds very swishy with an extra-long decay. I can't ever envision a usable tone above 3:00 on the dial.
Has anyone replaced the reverb tank with any success? How effective is a tube swap? What are the tried and true options?

That amp is a candidate for a MK II upgrade with improves a number of things but it does address early reverb issues. Check the threads for Mark II upgrades and check out the webpage for repairs/ upgrades. BV

I second Brian’s recommendation for the MKII upgrade. You would not believe the difference in tone and versatility.

Plus, everything else on the amp gets a once-over and it comes back like new inside.

It’s on the Z website somewhere. I think it’s $225 or something like that.

Recently had Maz 38 head updated to MKII. Cost service & repair Maz 38 MKII, plus any tube(s) replaced, shipping. Head 40 LBS, ~$57 each way shipping (Allen, TX to Maple Hts. OH).
If Combo, usually one removes the chassis and only ships it without the cabinet.

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't really wanna mess with the overall tone of my MKI. It sounds great with the Hellatone 30 and 6n14N tubes. I was just hoping for a more usable reverb.
