I have my Maz18NR in for MV mod. I’m also craving a Z-Plus. Is there too much overlap? Aside from gaining reverb, is there a new sound palette? Thanks for any insight!

Larry, There is not too much overlap between the two. You can get similar tones, but the Z-Plus seems to have more head room so you can get a real sweet clean tone almost 3D. Also the amp loves heavy dirt pedals and it sounds glorious with driven hard. It has a bit of a heavier meatier tone when overdriven.

Thanks for your description. I'm looking forward to playing the MAZ18NR after the MV mod is done and we'll see how much I crave another Z.

I own both amps and side by side, the Z-Plus has a fatter more full midrange where the Maz is brighter and has more chime. I think a lot has to do with 6V6 vs el84’s power tubes. I find my Maz18nr is louder and more aggressive but the fat glorious mid punch of the Z-Plus is winning me over. My Z-plus is the studio cab so makes sense the full size Maz has a bit more thump in the lows. They are both so good though that on any given day, you might prefer one over the other.
