Anyone using the Alnico Cream with their Maz? Wondering if it’s overkill with the 90 watt rating. I just picked up a 2013 Maz 18r and it has the stock g12h30. I’m not a huge fan of these. I’m looking for something a bit smoother in the highs, softer lows and a more balanced sound. The g12m65 creamback is on my radar as well.

I’ve heard lots of raves about the 90 W AlNiCo Cream speaker, but I’ve yet to play it so I cannot comment. But I can say this: do not concern yourself with wattage of the speaker versus output of the amp—well... as long as the speaker is rated at least as high as the amp’s output, of course. But there’s too many variables at play to say that a 90 W speaker won’t sound great with an 18 W amp. I say try it!

I will say the an Alnico Cream knocked me out when installed in a MAZ 38 Studio Cab. Surprisingly big lows in that that smaller Studio Cab , way smooth highs, just a big round balanced tone. You say you're looking for softer lows, not sure what that means really but the Alnico Cream has pretty stout lows. In a lower wattage 18 maybe not so much , but still a bit over kill I think. But the Ceramic G12-M65 Creamback maybe just what your after , at by the way half the cost. Z

Even the regular greenback would do well. No, it can't handle 65 watts, but who needs that with the Maz Jr? And there are lots of used greenbacks out there for lesser cost. And there are lots of clones out there for lesser cost too.
