Hi all,
I have a Nova head on order, my first Z amp! Can't wait of course.
I've seen all the videos, and I've read the manual, but there's a couple of things not clear yet for me:
1. The blending of the clean and overdrive channels. Great concept btw, love the idea. Now I've heard different stories behind this. Simple question, if I close the Volume knob and open the Overdrive knob, will I only hear the overdrive channel? Or maybe nothing at all?
2. The overdrive channel. I understand the level of the overdrive channel will be increased while turning up the Overdrive knob, easy. But what about the overdrive gain? Will that increase as well while turning the Overdrive knob? Or does it maybe have fixed gain?
Thanks, Robert

Welcome aboard!
1. Yes, you can leave (regular) volume down and just hear the OD channel. 2. My ears tell me the gain is increasing along with the volume, at least up to a point.
The master is terrific, so you can get the mix of clean and OD you want and then adjust the overall level. I'm mostly a classic rock/blues/blues rock player. I tend to have the OD "always" on at a moderate level as a component of my base tone.
Please post your impressions after you get the amp.

Welcome to the Forum Robert! A lot of good information and people here on the Forum. I don't have a Nova but I'm sure there will be plenty of people that will help answer your questions.

I trust you will rectify this at some future date. (Pun intended.)

I trust you will rectify this at some future date. (Pun intended.) I'm sure there's a prototype somewhere in Doc's shop

Hi Robert and welcome to the forum! You've selected a VERY good Z amp for your first one.
The lack of a volume knob on the OD channel concerned me before I bought one. Here's the deal....unless you need super clean to very high gain, the Nova will do the job. I'm like Mike (doctorice) in that I just leave the OD channel on (set about 9 o'clock or so) and use the guitar volume to go from clean to OD. If you need more, step on your OD pedal of choice (you'll most likely only need one).
The Nova is a great amp. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts once you get it.

Thanks all for your kind responses!
I'm working in a home studio environment with 4 other amps (DS40, Telos, MarkV and a 2525) and some 10+ good guitars (including a JM Jag heh). I'm mostly in vintage sound territory, edgy clean-ish to (sometimes seriously) broken up, basically where Nova lives. I always use the guitar volume knob to find my sound, gain wise, and where needed I use a boost to get the amp kicked into gears.
The idea of blending both channels to taste sounds brilliant to me. I'd probably leave it in Overdrive mode all the time and play with the knobs. Clean with a touch of overdrive, or overdriven with enough clean to add definition. That should be possible right?
Will certainly give you an update once I tried it!
Robert

the clean also breaks up nicely if you push it. Lots of pleasing options with the NOVA

Congrats on a great choice of a Z amp and welcome to the group! I'm a BIG fan of the Nova. I plugged my Firebird into the one Doc brought to Z-Fest 2018 and ordered one on the spot. I love just going straight into the amp with no effects. Like Mike said above, I also usually use the OD channel engaged and ride my guitar Volume control for drive.
It's just a great amplifier. Looking forward to your impression of it when it arrives!

Hey all,
It arrived today! I was abroad and had to delay the delivery, arghhh. The short version: LOVE IT! It's exactly what I hoped it would be. It sounds really great. Compliments to the Dr.
If you're interested I can do a somewhat detailed review in parts, while I discover the amp in the coming days/weeks (in a new thread).
If not, I'll do a condensed version here, but that will take some more playing.
Robert
