Local shop had the MK II Reverb, a Friedman PT 20, Marshall SV20, and a fun class a Reeves single el34 amp. I brought my 2012?, 2013? Maz JR NR in to compare.
On the MK II, it’s so quiet!! Remarkably quiet compared to the 2011 Reverb I used to own. And the reverb is super lush. Nice job Doc. Gain was there at lower volumes too. Weight wise, it was the heaviest of the bunch, and didn’t feel a load lighter than my current Z. Noticeable, but not enough for me to think “dang, I need a new cab for my NR.” Nice perk though when shopping.
Different sound than my NR. It felt more bright than my NR, not as thick midwise. Not sure on what speaker was in there. Preferred it to the Reeves, but the Reeves had a weird WGS in it that didn’t do the amp favors. Much better through a Creamback m65. It was hard to judge against the Friedman. Both good, just different. I didn’t try the boost with the Reverb model, that might have gotten them in the same vein.
My NR was still (thankfully for my wallet) my favorite. Just a bit more bite than the reverb, and chewy and gainy like the Friedman when the boost is hit halfway. Just a beautiful amp Doc. Still love the tone from it! I’d say the Mk II was second, friedman a close third or tie, again just a different tone from the reverb model. The Reeves, well it just needed a different speaker. It sounded much better through the friedman cab. Hard to judge it when it was being let down internally.
Bit of a ramble other than to say the new Maz is lighter, quieter, has a wide range of tones at a greater volume spread without needing an attenuator like my NR, and is still a champ of an amp in it’s new iteration.

I've never tried a Maz 18 reverb model, but I've owned an 18NR since 2015 or so. It was MK1 when I bought it and then I did the conversion to MKII. It's one of my favorite amps, and I really responded to say that it's very responsive to speaker changes. I've had a ton of different speakers in that amp, and yesterday I changed from a G12H30 to a UK made Greenback (the EVH branded one that's the same as the GB classics but way cheaper, THANKS JOHN!). It rocks with the Greenback. I've also liked the Gold, ET-65, G12H30, Z12...it's not that fussy and each one puts a special sauce on the Maz 18NR. It's just a great amplifier. I'll never sell it.

I hear ya on the speaker. I tried a blue, gold, and the stock g12h30 in the reverb model I used to own. They all sounded great, just different. The NR came with the creamback, and it just works. Haven’t been tempted to change it out at all.

I currently have a Mk.II reverb model, but it started as a Mk.I....So, I have that to compare to. I had a Mk.I NR a few years ago.... While I absolutely LOVE my reverb model, I kind of wish it was a NR model..... But, it was a local trade and I can't complain about the tone one bit! The NR model is a little more aggressive, not necessarily in the way you think though. Yeah, it has more dirt on tap, but it's just more "in your face" and slightly more percussive than the reverb model. The reverb model feels a little "squishier" and forgiving.....But they both sound like a Maz 18. I'm sure, if you turned down the reverb on mine, had a 2nd NR model there - and blind folded me.....I probably couldn't tell the difference

You’re not helping my GAS. There is an Avitar 212 on CL right now loaded with a G12H30 (which is in my Maz 18), and Blue for $375. If he drops it much lower I might just have to get it to try.

I picked up a maz 18 studio/reverb from humbuckers that was on blowout/sale and im totally gassed with it...reverb is way beyond my expectations and quiet as mudman has commented...I plugged in and was 5 minutes into playing and it was like no other maz I have ever owned, wow!.The maz has evolved for sure from my first reg cab to this (owned 5 so far) latest studio 18...thanks Doc for your pursuit of excellence for customers and lineup.

The new mk11 may uses the yellow (astron) type caps, to my ear its actually more mellow and warm which is what I like, I can get a very convincing blackface tone but also awesome AC/DC tones. Love it. don't get me wrong it can get plenty aggressive.
