The S2 Semi Hollow Customs are a bargain used, too, and the ones I've tried are killer. NOT a 335, though.

Just jumping in to give another vote for a Heritage 535. It will be the closest to a Vintage Gibson that you'll find. And if you're buying used, depending on the year, likely even made by some of the same people. Heritage has a "Heritage Owners Club" forum much like this one where you may be able to find a deal.

Wait for the snow to fly and come visit me in Miami - you would love my 79 335TD....thin neck, nice and mellow. Can compare with the Collings SoCos while you are here too. ;) 339 is great - hit up Christopher

I have a CS336 but the 339 is good, too. The 336 has a bookmatched solid flamed maple top and one piece mahogany back/sides (CNC routed). The 339 is more akin to a 335-laminated ply body. I didn't dig the 60/30 assymetric neck on the 339 so I got the 336. If you don't want to spend Gibson style money go for the Epiphone pro 339. You can always upgrade the harness and pickups.

I’d throw in for Duesenberg as well. Another top notch line of hollow body guitars that are pretty amazing. I’ve had three and they’ve all three been better than the majority of Gibson’s I’ve owned. Their trem system is the best.
