Since we're doing pickups now, I could use a little input (ha ha!) on my Custom Shop '69 paisley Tele. The stock CS handwound pickups would be great for a hard-core country chicken-picker--super bright, tons of twang--but that's not my thang and I'd like to dial them back a bit without having to roll the tone control almost all the way off. My other Teles are both loaded with humbuckers--Lollars in the Nash T2HB, and a Lollar Imperial neck and Duncan Lil '59 in the bridge on the thinline. I'm thinking either another Lil '59 for this guy, plus maybe a Lollar Vintage T in the neck, or else go with the Lollar Special T/Vintage T set they recommend for folks who like the Dirty Blonde set for Strats. But I'm open to other suggestions--basically I'm looking to take a country twangmonster and turn it into more of a dirty blues guitar that's going to interact well with dirt pedals and maybe Marshall-style amps.

Will a strat style Lil 59' fit in the tele bridge position? (anyone know?)

Likely wont fit. Tele has three mounting screws, whereas the Strat has two. Might work if the two holes in the Strat pickup are spaced the same as the Tele, if you didn't mind not having the third adjustment screw. Now I'm curious. May have to go measure.

I'll offer my usual "Lindy Fralin Blues Special Tele" suggestion. GREAT all-around rockin' Tele set that's not too bright or chicken-pickin. In fact, I've always thought this bridge pickup is an excellent classic rocker.
As for the neck pickup in this set, typically they're uncovered; however, if you want to keep the classic chrome/nickel-covered look (I would, for your Paisley CS model), then Lindy might recommend a 2% underwind on the neck just to keep it from getting too dark (the Blues Special is already +5% overwound from stock Tele). I'd call them about this... might even get Lindy himself on the phone.

Nope, won't fit. I forgot how the arrangement of the three holes was on the Tele.

I’ve got the Lollar Vintage/Special combo in my Grosh Tele. Love those. They’ve been in there a long time now.

Just some suggestions:
Joe Barden modern Tele are nice! Very quiet.
Don Mare’s pickups are also nice.
Bare Knuckles Yardbird set will get in the early Jimmie Page area.
Lollar’s are also nice.
Lots of choices out there. Have fun!

If you have the time and patience to wait, I’ve had the opportunity to mess around with Don Mare’s Keefer set and they are awesome. Named in honor of none other than Keef Richards with a strat-esque neck pickup and a 10k bridge pup. Straight rock n roll.

Te TE60 is great. I have several of his pickups in my guitars and love them. TE59, Broadcaster, Nocaster, P90's and Strat single coils.

My Tele has a humbucker in the neck and typical single coil in the bridge. I went with a Lollar J-Street in the bridge and an Imperial in the neck. She sounds killer. I typically run in the middle position with both pickups on. I'm not a country picker either.

They fit right in with classic rock / gritty blues stuff. Plus it's wired up with a four position switch so you can choose between (I think...) series and parallel for the combos - one is smoother, the other growls. They get comments, and lots of people have noticed (and liked) the uncovered neck pickup.

I went with the Lollars--will report back once my tech gets them installed. Will probably order a set of Callaham brass saddles, too.

Stayed up 'till 2AM last night installing a home-crafted pickguard, stock-tele Fralins and RS electronics. Got waylaid by oversized adjustment holes in the neck pickup. 'Twas a tad late for a hardware shopping spree, so activities will commence today. I'm not a Tele kinda guy so I really have no reference other than recordings that suggest this guitar should have more sparkle, twang, spank and sizzle than is currently available.

I'd sell you the super-twangy Custom Shop handwounds that came with Pinky, but I think I'd better hang on to 'em in case I ever decide to sell the guitar.

Ended up going with Lollars--they sound great; basically the Tele equivalent of the Dirty Blonde set. May switch out the steel saddles for brass Callahams at some point, but otherwise Big Pank is done. Plays great, sounds killer--nice mix of twang, spank, stank and gank.

I have long been a fan of the Fender OV set but last week I had a Nash T63 come in with the Lollar Vintage T neck/Special T bridge set, and my world is forever changed. I never heard such bell-like clarity, even in the neck!

If you are still considering changing bridge saddles you might try this. In my CS '51 Nocaster I have a compensated Callaham set. The E/A is titanium and the other two are brass. They will do that for you if you ask. It tones down the edge of the higher strings without losing the clarity on the bottom.

I’ll be the odd duck out here but I really don’t use my Fralin Blues Special in the bridge position very often. I do however use the Fralin Big Single(Love) in the neck position and middle position on my tele. I’m starting to think I’m just not a bridge player other than the occasional solo that calls for distortion. I just love the big, full, round sound of the neck/middle positions. Even on clean lead stuff I find I prefer the middle position. Should I try adjusting the pick up heights? Tempted to try one of those Florence bridge pick ups but I may have to face reality that I just don’t prefer the tone of a bridge pick up for 97% of my playing.
