Howdy,
I bought a z28 from a friend of mine about 10-12 years ago. It was the first Dr. Z I had played and it fit my playing so well that my friend said, "I'm gonna sell you that amp, because it's perfect for you." And to this day, it is the best decision I've ever made. This amp has never let me down. It's my desert island amp. The cool thing about this amp, besides it's sounds like a million bucks is, it is signed by Dr Z. Rumor has it, it was one of the first if not the prototype of the z-28. What I'm wondering, did he sign many amps and could this be the prototype? Thanks in advance for any info!

Get the serial number off the back corner of the amp, and then check it against the info shown here: ztalk.proboards.com/post/147924/threadThat'll give you a really good idea of when the guitar was built, and if it was one of the first few, based of Doc's numbering system. Seems to me that Doc signed a lot of amps--especially about 15-20 years ago when things were lower-volume and he didn't have as many employees to help. It seems that he'll also sign & date the chassis if it's been serviced or whatever, just to signify when it was last seen by the shop. Aside from all that though, I've got no doubts that your amp is awesome--I have one myself, too. Doc's quality is great, but so is his reliability & consistency, so as long is it's a Z you can expect quality every time.

Welcome to the forum JB! After that many years of having a Z amp, nice of you to drop in.
I totally agree with what Mark said: "So long as it's a Z - you can expect quality every time".
My DB4 was signed by Dr Z as a special request to mark a very important anniversary. Makes the tone really jump out. Congratulations on a very Special Z28...

Thanks Guys! Great Forum btw. I just received a note from the Doc and the amp was created in '99. I also have a 20th anniversary Maz 18 (NR) head with a 2X12 Best cab. Mercy what a combo! The two of these amps together create a huge sound. The Z-28 has 2 10's and when coupled with the 2X12 cab it is a beautiful wall of sound. Plenty of head room from he 28 and will sing for days through the Maz when soloing. And speaking of pics.... I tried to upload my pedalboard last night and it wanted a web link. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, JB
