Does anyone have any experience with these older 1990s Big Muffs? I know the green Russian is widely cloned and supposedly the first version of the green Russian (tall font) is the source of the clones. It looks like I’ve stumbled into owning one (getting it tomorrow in a trade) and was wondering what others though if it.

I had one a long time ago. It was a beast. Ran it with a Fender Twin (red knob). Made everything sound over the top grinding chainsaw.... From memory. I loved it. Had plastic Jack's and eventually gave up the ghost. But sounded killer while it lasted.

What Paul said. I had one from that era (came in a wooden box) and I couldn't get a sound out of it I liked. I did modify the name so I could take it to church though. I used a black felt tip pen and connected a few letters for it to read Bio Mopp, I thought it might be more acceptable if I did use it there.

I always forget the connotation there haha. At this point, it’s become its own thing linguistically. I’m sure I’ll be trying to sell it, but I do want to at least give it a shot for survival. I wanted cash for what I’m trading, but when something this cool comes along, I can’t say no!

Cool. Let us know what you think. I liked what it did. Just wish the Jack's would have been metal.

Wow. I’m impressed. I fiddled with it for about 10-15 minutes before my wife pulled the plug to make me help try to do some more moving in. We’ve still got a bunch of junk to process through (we are at the spot when you get to the stuff you wish you’d just throw away, but can’t bring yourself to doing it).
Anywho... i would love to have this on my board. But it’s big and it’s super heavy. So I’m not sure if I’ll hang onto it or let it go to someone who will give it more love. It’s got the distinctive Muff thing going, but it’s super quiet, able to be cleaned up (somewhat), and I think it would cut really well in a band situation for cool lead lines and riff work.

I needed cash so I let it go for 250 at the recommendation of Mike Piera (Analogman). He told me the PCB and components aren’t very good and too big to mod/rehouse the pedal at a reasonable price.
